Forums - Sales - Sony: Microsoft Reliant on Shooters

I figured now would be as good of a time as any to debate the perception of the 360 as a "shooterbox." Peter Dille didn't exactly say that, but it's directly implied with his comments about Microsoft.

Anyway my take is that this is pretty ironic considering that the PS3 has more exclusive shooters and more shooters published by Sony than the 360 has by Microsoft.

Taking a gander at the list:

Sony:
Resistance
Resistance 2
Resistance 3
SOCOM: US Navy Seals Confrontation
SOCOM 4
Killzone 2
Killzone 3
Warhawk
MAG

Microsoft:
Halo 3
Halo 3 ODST
Halo Reach
Gears of War (also on PC)
Gears of War 2
Gears of War 3
Left 4 Dead (also on PC, published by Valve)
Left 4 Dead 2 (also on PC, published by Valve)

So that's 9 to 8 Sony or 9 to 5 Sony if you wanna discount the "console exclusives." What does everyone else think of Dille's comments? Is it coincidental that they were made the release of Halo Reach?

Haha, no offense but you left out games on both sides. How can you name Resistance for the PS3 & not name Perfect Dark: Zero?

I only looked up shooters for the Xbox 360 & I didn't get half way through their library because it just got tiring.

Prey, Perfect Dark Zero, Bulletwitch, Call of Duty 2, Metro 2033, Call to Juarez ( Not Bound in Blood), Chromehounds, Crackdown 1 & 2 (Considered an open world TPS), Darkest Days, Deathsmiles, & Dreamkiller.

You see how I just easily added 12 shooters to that list ( they are either exclusive or on both 360/PC).

Microsoft: Sony cannot rely on their shooters.

Good thing they don't HAVE to.  :P

Of course not. Thats why they are third, it takes a lot of the pressure to succeed off them so they can pursue their own niche.

No they're third because the PS2 got to their heads.  Kind of ironic actually lol.

MS doesn't even put out that many shooters. The 360 just happens to have a huge shooting fan base courtesy of Halo.

This is just Sony spewing out crap because they can't win sales of that genre.

Same as Turn 10 crapping on GT.  Corporate banter.  What's funny is that they don't care about this stuff one/zillionth of the amount that we do lol.  I don't really care, I just like smiting misinformed people I think.  :D

Well think about it. If they were as successful as Nintendo, games like Heavy Rain would be seen as abysmal flops. Anything under 2.5M or thereabouts is a dismal flop by Nintendo standards going by Wii Music.

Can't the same be said for Microsoft?  Nintendo has only ever looked up at one company you know....lol.

Edit: Actually, did Xbox 1 beat Gamecube? Perhaps I spoke too soon lol.

The Sony head offices are much taller than the Microsoft or Nintendo ones... they obviously have a greater epeen or greater need to show it off.

Fair enough. Perfect Dark ties it. A majority of the stuff you listed though is either stuff that were de facto exclusives that the PS3 would've gotten had it been on the market, stuff I haven't heard of (Bulletwitch, Dream Killer), or a steaming pile of crap (Darkest of Days). I attempted to list the titles Microsoft relies on, which is mainly console exclusives that they either publish or break a couple million units (Left 4 Dead). Deathsmiles is not the kind of game Peter Dille is talking about. He really isn't going to bring up titles like Bulletwitch or Metro 2033 if you asked him to specifically mention which games Microsoft relies on.

themanwithnoname's law: As an America's sales or NPD thread grows longer, the probabilty of the comment "America = World" [sarcasticly] being made approaches 1.

Hey, Sony isn't all about the epeen.  They even have a highly advanced black vibrator coming out for the ladies.  Truly, Sony and the PS3 do EVERYTHING.  Although Kinect can really make an impact in this area if utilized properly.

You say "Hey, Sony isn't all about the epeen." then you go on to say that they have highly advanced epeen, "They even have a highly advanced black vibrator coming out for the ladies." You sir are a total contradiction as is Sony. You say one thing and then directly contradict it with your actions or words immediately afterwards.

But yes, as you said Kinect can make an impact in this area for it's total lack of epeen. It is the untapped virgin market which Microsoft is going for, Kinect is for people who don't feel confortable touching epeen.

By the way. I heard when Sony were developing the DS1 Ken Kuturagi the famous and ballsy executive whipped out his package and placed his balls on the schematic paper and traced a circle around each one. Each ball became one of the famous pair of analogue sticks first introduced with the PS1.
