Boy I'll sure be glad when this whole Lady Gaga craze is over.

On topic: Don't ask don't tell is probably best for homosexuals in the army. Its not gonna go over too well when you announce you're gay to a bunch of marines. I don't think its the best place/time to come out of the closet.

It's not like they're going to force people to tell their sexual orientation to others.

The problem is, if you violate don't ask don't tell.... your kicked out of the army.

That is... if you violate it and your gay.

If your straight and talk about hooking up with a woman... no penalty.

Yeah there's plenty of double standards in the world that suck eh. Its cool to say you're into women, but if you're into guys you get kicked out of the army.

There are also plenty of double standards for racism, religion, etc.

I really don't care what this woman does. Anyone who calls themselves superhuman or claim that their music is gonna change the world is too full of themselves IMO. I think she really cares about gay rights, but mainly because gay guys are the ones who support her music the most. If someone like Miley Cyrus (i don't like her btw) who has very few gay fans, were to support gay rights, because she thinks that the laws are plain unfair towards the gay community, that would be commendable IMO.

that's a great point actually.

I second tha notion. Her music isnt anyhting special and last time I checked, no pop singer/group ever changed a generation or the world for that matter.

" Rebellion Against Tyrants Is Obedience To God"

I dont really like this over-exposure that Lady Gaga brings, i bet she is just as empty as the last bottle of wine she bought from the supermarket.

Too bad these people only tries to get as much money as the teenagers pretending to be the tipical "She is who she wants to be", but Gaga is actually like any other pre-build teen icon, Madonna, Mariah, Britney, and now Lady Gaga . . .

You may find a mirror trying to find the other side of the world

The ORIGINAL idea of don't ask don't tell had great intentions. The policy was put in place so that Gays could not be denied entry into the military simply for being such. Unfortunately by the time the law had fully been drawn out, it became just another way of ostracizing gays who are in the military. Many Gays have been dishonorably discharged for simply being what they are. I have had several friends and acquaintance that this has affected. One friend in particular was kicked out due to him being outed to his commanding officers. Its about time we have done away with this law seeing how down right unfair it is.

I find it so ironic because many people don't realize just how many LGBT people are actually in the military. I would have to estimate its about 20% due to the ratio of military people I meet. If we were to just eliminate all of them from our forces it would be a huge blow so US should show more appreciation for them. There is a saying, "It's ok to be gay, when your away..."

That is false. Pop icons have done much that influence the entire period in music and life. You would do well to pay attention to it because this is how trends are set.

firstly, a "Pop" icon is simply what is in style for the time. any genre of music can be pop and it changes and evolves over time.

Elvis was pop of his period. He was the defacto entertainer that everyone wanted to be.

Of recent Micheal Jackson has been truely realized for the phenomenal pop icon he is. His influence runs deeper than anthing with the sound of music today and dance moves of every other big pop icon after him.

Madonna, queen of risque and outlandishness. This was the beginning of the "Teenie Bopper" and it would only go on to be perfected by Brittney Spears who quickly became house hold name. When your daughter walks out the house dressed scandelously you can blame these two. On the male side you also have Backstreet boys etc but to lesser extent.

Later you get Bands like My Chemical Romance and Linkin Park that birth the "Emo" fad.

Gaga is an entity within herself. It is the recent transformation of pop into the strange and unheard of that she embodies. From the outfits to her personality thats what SHE is. Wierdness personified. I assure you the trends are starting to run deep in youth with their clothing and personality. Every other singer/entertainer of today wants to be her and I can see it in all their music videos and the way they have changed from their orginal selves. If you have heard any music of today, u will realize that it sounds exceedingly more like "House" music(and music with excessive auto tuning). That is Gaga. The steering more towards House and Techno of old making a furious come back.

I think what you underestimate is the psychological influences these faddish music groups hold on society, music, and youth of the time period.

I could care less what any celebrity says about anything.  Celebrities work for us and should shut-up and entertain us.

As for don't ask don't tell, it's only a matter of time before it's tossed out and Lady Gaga will have no part in overturning it.

Edit:  I was a little too blunt.  A celebrity should voice their opinions through their art, not some speech.

I imagine Lady Gaga probably does care about don't ask don't tell, as do millions of other people.

The law is stupid and should be overturned, discrimination is wrong.

I understand what the definition of pop stands for. Though over the years the meaning has changed when it comes to defining an artist. For example someone like Kurt Cobain, Ozzy Osborne, Robert Plant, are not considered pop stars/Icon  but a Rock Icon's.

While Micheal Jockson was huge (and had a lot of imitations) the only person on that list who influenced society is Madonna (the ways women dressed ect) and her songs were on a much higher level than LAdy Gaga's. Also if the Backstreet Boys influenced the way you dressed at the time I feel sorry for you because no one I ever went to school with copied their image.

Now the main argument was that Lady Gaga's music will not change the world. Which it wont because her lyrics are not very well written and most people do have the understanding that she is fake and her image was created by the music industry. Pretty much to put it bluntly she's no John Lennon. The song Imagine is the type of song that impacts people on that sort of level, or Nirvana's Smells Like Teen Spirit. Not some regurgitated dance hit (Bad  Romance has a similar resemblance to Poker face).
