Forums - Microsoft - Halo : Combat Evolved is nothing special...

Pacing, balance, level design, story, vehicles, physics, co-op and mutliplayer.  Halo did it all.

Look up any online review place you trust and read their review of it: Halo was the real deal.

THAT doesn't mean you have to like it, there are LOTS of good games that were rated very high that I didn't enjoy to the level of the reviewers.  Different strokes for different folks, but trying to mitigate this game...10 billion players, countless awards and great meta-score...come on, you're better than that.

One thing to notice in this thread is the fact that every person who has posted "I don't get the hype for Halo" are PS3 fans.

Halo CE revolutionized the FPS market on consoles thats a fact.  Without Halo there would be no Killzone, Modern Warfare, Bioshock, Resistance, or really any of the big name shooters existing today.  Halo CREATED the modern day vision of FPS on consoles.

Also if you really are playing it, trying to compare a ten year old game to a modern games is just ridiculous.

FPS never needed to come to consoles, and all those series never needed to exist. Also Bioshock sprung from system shock, not halo. And Modern warfare came from the PC call of duty games.

what the hell are you talking about?

you are like one of those music fans that hates a band as soon as it becomes successful.... "their early stuff was much better"

FPS wasn't exactly a niche genre on PC. The move to consoles have stagnated the genre as a whole.

I hate this, and this is coming from someone who really doesn't have anything to say about Microsoft consoles/games.

I honestly respect trolls more than anyone who trash talks an older game. Maybe trash talk is too strong of a word, but if you're going to play a game that's almost ten years old for the first time and judge it as if it was released in the current generation, I really can't take your opinion seriously anymore. Now I've personally never played Halo: Combat Evolved (nor care for it) but I believe people who say it revolutionized the FPS. The fanbase is too huge to ignore and it must be doing something right.

Same goes for people who played Final Fantasy VII recently and took shots at it.

WTF ? I'm not trash talking by any means.

Where have I said ANYTHING negative about the game ? Other than saying that its repetitive.....and the little dudes are annoying. I haven't even finished the game yet, and I just said that it was not what I expected it to be so far. That is all. It probably gets better as it goes on.

Anyway, to the people saying that the PC version sux @ only 83 metacritic vs 97 metacritic for xbawx, its still the same game, isn't it ? PC version was a 2 year late port...so the lower reviews are understandable.

am I to be denied FPS's?

Why not? You're denied rts games as well.

I gave Halo credit for being basically the FPS of its time. But overall the game isn't that good. However the online was fun for its time as well.

Now I know you haven't played it.

I just played it yesterday in my Uni's PC. Halo should have stayed in PC along with Microsoft.

Halo STARTED on the xbox....

Wait, that is true. They should have focused on PC and thing else then.

why?

I personally don't like Microsoft in the console market. I don't want them as competition for Sony and Nintendo. My two cents.

Why not? They are a good thing for true gamers, and the gaming market.

Anyway, Halo belongs on a console, the PC version of CE sucked ass, but the console version was amazing. This coming from a guy who has both. After Reach, if I can pry myself away from multiplayer long enough, I plan to play through the series in order of story line.

Well I meant it in a general way, which is why I followed it with the bolded part, so it wouldn't come off as a personal attack torwards you.

You should be more angry about me comparing you to a troll

Now I know you haven't played it.

I was wondering if he had even played CE on the Xbox or if they added multiplayer to the PC version.

Not to be a complete ass, but I really don't think anyone should be considered to have a valid opinion of a game if they haven't actually played through the whole game for the more or less complete experience.

I won't even rate a game I haven't finished since there's always that possibility that over ten hours of really repetive/bad game and story could be redeemed in the last 1 or 2. It almost never happens, but without playing through the whole game you may as well be saying "that 12 course feast completely sucked" when all you ate were the appetizers.

That goes for all the "I played it for 10 minutes on my buddy's *console that I don't have* and say that it sucks/is overrated" guys too. You know who you are.

Amusing to see people can still be so easily lured into arguments by people who are so obviously trolls.
