Goldeneye 007 is nothing special. It may have been hot shit in 1997, but over a decade later, it ain't so hot.
-But in 2001, Halo got the controls right. People (on consoles) were playing Red Faction and Timesplitters. Halo controlled better than those games. Halo had graphics that were miles beyond those games. People (not me--I hated the original Xbox. Still not quite sure why. I guess because I didn't have one.) were linking multiple consoles together and having somewhat of an equivalent of online gaming, back in those days. I played 2-Player co-op on X-Mas 2001 (my girlfriend's nephew had gotten an X-Box and tried to impress me because he knew I was a gamer. I had a PS2 and I hated on his console so badly that he traded it for a GBA. I feel pretty bad about that.) and it was pretty fun.
So yeah. Playing it now, it's going to be below average. There are games that were great at the start of THIS generation that were good in 2005/2006 that I wouldn't want to play, now. The industry and gamer tastes evolve fast. Halo 1 is just one of those games that got left behind.
