The obvious answer? It's Kinect ready.

lol.

You know that some people are really excited for kinect right? Kinect has more preorders per week than GT5

I would think that it is because mostly old user wanted to upgrade to a newer and better version. though there may be new users I think it is mostly old users. It makes sense at least to me.

I think a lot of people are looking to upgrade their older models.  I still have a launch 20gb 360 Pro which I've somehow managed to keep alive, but I'm really considering picking up a 360 S so that I can retire my current 360.  Most of my friends took advantage of the GameStop deal that let you trade in your old 360 for credit towards the 360 S.

I'm willing to bet that a large chunk of the 360 S sales are from existing 360 users.  Very different from when the PS3 Slim launched, because most existing PS3 users really had no incentive to purchase a Slim.  For example, I also have the 80gb PS3 with BC, so there is really no need for me to upgrade, and I'd imagine that most other PS3 users felt the same way.  The PS3 Slim launch probably increased the actual PS3 user base more than the Xbox 360 S did for its user base (where a lot of the sales are from people upgrading).

Either people love Halo, or they don't realize how awesome Blu-ray is.

Well, I love Halo AND I realize how awesome Blu-Ray is but I have a stand alone BR player. I don't understand how people don't see a difference in BR quality on 1080p flat panel. Not saying that people really don't see a difference, I just don't understand how it could be.

OT, I think the reason the 360 is selling so well is because like others have said, multiple different reasons. Less fear of RROD, current owners wanting to get in on the new features, Kinect, $199 versions, the chance of running into Justin Bieber on live and either jocking him or crushing him, you name it. Oh and how could we forget, the new console just looks too damn sexy.

I LOVE paying for Xbox Live! I also love that my love for it pisses off so many people.

Not this "its only older console owners upgrading" crap again, it that was the case then the attach rate would be going down(it's not), and we would not be seeing so many older games in the top 10/20 in Europe and the US!

I'd like to see how many people own 2 or more xbox 360's compared to PS3 and WII's . I think so many more people own a second console because the old one broke down. I have one 360, but if this one is broken I'll probably buy a PS3 so I can play those exclusives.

Another stupid argument, most people dont just go out and buy a second console for no reason, especially when there is the 3 year warranty.

Why are people buying the PS3? Both the 360 and PS3 look cool, offer sick games, and the only real difference between the two is blu-ray. Also Arcade 360's are $199, and HD gaming that cheap is pretty appealing.

Yeah just Blu-Ray ... right!

The PS3 has exclusives in many different genres, the x360 mostly has shooters, shooters, shooters and a few others.

The ten best sold x360-games include 7 shooters, 2 action/adventures and 1 music game (with Halo: Reach and COD: Black Ops coming up the last 2 will probably clear the way for a 9 out of 10 shooter-list with GTA IV having a lot of shooting in it), while the ten best sold PS3-games include just 4 shooters and Resistance: Fall of Man will be kicked out of the list by LBP or Uncharted2 within a few weeks.

Well if you look at the top 15 excluives (because it's exclusives that count, both consoles have CoD shooters at the top of their sales list) the 360 has 8 shooters, 3 racing games, 3 RPG's and a strategy game. PS3 has 7 Action/Adventure Games, 6 shooters, and 1 racing game. 360 may be largly shooters, but it's got a reasonable share of popular RPG's and Racing games as well, where PS3 is just a shooter/Action Adventure split.

I refuse to say 360 has more shooters because the 3 big exclusive shooters on the 360 are Halo, Gears and Left 4 Dead. PS3 has Killzone, Resistance, Uncharted, and MGS. Just because the 360 has more successful shooters that doesn't make it a shooter platform. I bet if you count up all the good exclusive racing games and RPG's 360 would also have more of those. Does that make it "the" RPG or racing game system? Not really. Stop with the hate, and spread the love.

Anyway, regardless both consoles have good exclusives, I think the purpose of this thread is just a cause for 360 and PS3 supporters to argue. 360 sells well because it's a good console, and PS3 sells well for the same reason. No one should expect PS3 or 360 sales to differ that extremely since both consoles are similar in price, specs, games, etc. I mean the some of the best rated and best selling games around are multiconsole (CoD, GTA, Assassin's Creed, Fallout, Resident Evil, etc).

P.S. of that list of top 10 360 games, the lowest was GH3 at 4.40 million. How many PS3 games sold above 4.40 million? 4? 3 shooters and 1 action adventure game? so 75% of games selling 4.40 million or more are shooters on PS3, and 70% of game selling 4.40 million or more are shooters on the 360. Looks pretty similar to me with the exception that 360 has more high selling games.

What ground do you base old 360 owners all upgrading? I'm still using my 20gig Pro edition from 2007, and I see no reason to upgrade. MS replaced my original non HDMI 360 a long time ago, and the HDMI model seems to be a lot more reliable.

Most people I know with an old 360 still have it and use it regularly. I have yet to meet someone who wants to "upgrade" their 360. Why not just get a PS3 instead of upgrade? Then get the best of both worlds?

I think the new 360 Slim just looks awesome, and people want one. Most people who buy a gaming system for gaming don't really care about blu-ray, and a lot of households have a standalone blu-ray player. I think 360 sales are selling accordingly with demand.

Good counter-arguement. 360 attach rate is a lot higher then PS3's, it would make no sence for people to be upgrading.

You can't win with some people here, PS3 fans outnumber 360 fans by a lot, and if you try to protest their opinion, they will hunt you down like a pack of wolves.

Trust me, I get people flipping out on me all the time, I own both HD consoles, and I make arguements based on how I think the market is going. So I say pros and cons to every console, but every time I say the slightest cons about the PS3, I get ridiculued like crazy. However when I say something negative about 360, most jump in and are like "yea thats true." So much bias in these forums, I mean every year there are countless "PS3 will surpass 360 worldwide total sales in 2-3 year" then 2-3 years pass, the sames difference is the same and people still say "PS3 will surpass 360 worldwide total sales in 2-3 years." I bet once the consoles are obsolete people will say "VGChartz doesn't have accurate data, PS3 overtook the 360 worldwide sales in 2008."

Don't mean to offend anyone, I love all consoles and handhelds. Just it's soo silly how people just make threads to debate their opinion. Can't you just keep your opinion to yourself and just mention PS3 VS. 360 when you have something intelligent to say?

Not you Jadedx, but to everyone here. Lots stop making silly biased threads designed to cause flame wars.

Yes the 360 attach rate is higher but consider that most 360's have been purchased with 1 or two games bundled, which inflates the attach rate. Not to mention that despite a significant increase in console sales the software stayed even or declined alluding to upgrades.
