Why are people buying the PS3? Both the 360 and PS3 look cool, offer sick games, and the only real difference between the two is blu-ray. Also Arcade 360's are $199, and HD gaming that cheap is pretty appealing.

Yeah just Blu-Ray ... right!

The PS3 has exclusives in many different genres, the x360 mostly has shooters, shooters, shooters and a few others.

The ten best sold x360-games include 7 shooters, 2 action/adventures and 1 music game (with Halo: Reach and COD: Black Ops coming up the last 2 will probably clear the way for a 9 out of 10 shooter-list with GTA IV having a lot of shooting in it), while the ten best sold PS3-games include just 4 shooters and Resistance: Fall of Man will be kicked out of the list by LBP or Uncharted2 within a few weeks.

Just because shooters are selling well doesn't mean that's all they have.  360 has all sorts of games.  Platformers (Limbo, 'Splosion Man, Banjo Kazooie), sims (Viva Pinata), RPG's (Lost Odyssey, Blue Dragon), racing (Forza, Need For Speed), Puzzle (Tetris, Puzzle Quest).  In fact, it has everything that the PS3 has except for a few exclusives (just like the PS3 has everything the 360 has except for a few exclusives).  The difference between the two isn't as pronounced as you think.

Hell, I probably have around 100 games for my 360 and probably 10 of those are FPS's (if you count Bioshock or Condemned--and you shouldn't).

Its because in the eyes of a gamer the 360 is hotter right now, unless you are from Japan. And no thats not fanboyism, people are always really short sited and nothing has really happened for the PS3 since GoW3 launch. 360 has had a "price drop", a new model and a new Halo title come out.

360 has over 100 million sellers, 29 of them are shooters, less than half so keep your shooters comment to yourself troll. BTW, there are 6 shooters in the 360 top 20, same for ps3.

Either people love Halo, or they don't realize how awesome Blu-ray is.

Err? I have a PS3 and everything, but what is so awesome with blu-ray when i can stream 1080p movies directly from the internet? I've yet to put a blu-ray disc (other than a game) in my PS3 and i've had it for more than 2 years. The storage space is nice though, some 360 games have multiple discs, but i don't really see this as gamebreaking until games are 3D or 1080p, which wont happen before next gen (at least not without sacrificing either graphics or framerate).

Why did this thread turn into comparing the 360 to the PS3?

OT: It's selling to the existing base who are upgrading, and there's still a lot of buzz surrounding the machine, so new gamers are jumping on board. The momentum has swung again, like on a pendulum, in the direction of the 360. With the remodel, Kinect and Halo pushing it.

The obvious answer? It's Kinect ready.

lol.

A censure motion needs to be passed on these type of comments.

BTW: The 360 has more games than shooters. It has an excellent games library that covers all genres.

The 360 is selling due to the 360 Slim offering an upgraded system with Wi-Fi and a bigger HDD. Kinect is coming very soon. Halo: Reach has just been launched. 360 has a huge library of games to appeal to gamers. Fable 3 and Gears of War 3 are coming soon.

The time  to upgrade your console system from old 360 to new model 360 is now. 4 or 5 years of your  life has been dedicated to supporting the 360 and building a games collection. Supporting a console system is like supporting a sports team.

Add the FPS, 3PS, Sandbox Shooters and RPG Shooters and you get only 37 games but when you figure sales percentage it comes out to 48.1% still not quite a shooter box unless you remove heavily bundled games from the equation and the % rises to over 50 when you just remove half the bundled sales.

Now consider the weekly Xbox live most played game list almost every week the list has at minimum 7 shooting games.

The 2009 yearly list had 9 of 10 filled with Fable 2 being the one exception.

So while the 360 does have diversity among its games 37 shooters make up 50% of game sales in the top 100. They also dominate the majority of the time played on XBOX Live Microsoft's biggest revenue stream on the gaming front.

So like it or not for a significant portion of gamers the 360 is the shooterbox, and this is even more pronounced in North America. But is that really a bad thing?

I would think that it is because mostly old user wanted to upgrade to a newer and better version. though there may be new users I think it is mostly old users. It makes sense at least to me.
