Forums - Gaming - Have the numerous Sega/Sonic collections lessened anticipation for Sonic 4?

This Gen and last Gen Sega has decided to cash out on their greatest hayday of their greatest mascot with multiple sonic/sega collections. I own one of those collections, and for that reason I don't envision myself buying anymore of the blue hedgehog. Even if the fourth installment(or 5th if you can't the superb sonic and knuckles) is great, so many other games are coming out. I've had my fair share of sonic, and I'm content for quite awhile.

What say you? Has Sega shot themselves in the foot with their constant collections of sonic?

No... utterly bad game after bad game have lessened anticipation for Sonic 4... replaying the old good games makes me want a new good sonic game even more... *still has faith that Sonic 4 will be good*

Face the future.. Gamecenter ID: nikkom_nl (oh no he didn't!!)

I think bringing out nothing but crap sonic games for this last few years is why anticipation for sonic 4 is low.

Not really, if anything it's the shitty 3d sonic games that have dampened the anticipation for Sonic 4

Also I'm looking forward to Sonic Colours more than 4 myself

is this game gonna be downloadable or a hard disc, and i might actually get it since i didnt get any of those collections

So am I. I own both collections on GameCube (MegaCollection/GemsCollection) as such I can play pretty much everyone of Sonic's classics. But actually the classics are affecting my decision, I love the classics but I'm not the gamer I used to be and I'm no good at side scrollers anymore. I've also played the origionals to death. What does that have to do with Sonic4? Easy Sonic4 is pretty much a remake of the origionals I saw it at PAX and to be honest I wasn't impressed the graphical upgrade and homing were the only two features that I saw any different then the classics.

I asked a Sega rep why Sonic4 looked like a remake and nothing new. He was like "The fans want a remake they don't want something new". I have to say I always want something new. I may buy it if Sega puts it on disk after all the episodes have been released.

But for now I don't intend to buy it!

He is right though. Many fans have been kicking and screaming for a "return to the roots" "we want old 2d sonic" rampages for years and years now.

If all you want is a remake (Re-invisioning) then you should love Sonic4. But I myself like to see new content in a new game. But yah he was right Sega fans have complained for years that Sega hasn't given them a true old school Sonic game and this game is definatly an old school Sonic game, so old school it looks like a graphically upgraded Sonic the Hedgehog!
