Forums - General - Are Christians and North American's cowards?

From the fifth book of the Old Testament-

Deuteronomy 17-
If there be found among you, within any of thy gates which the LORD thy God giveth thee, man or woman, that hath wrought wickedness in the sight of the LORD thy God, in transgressing his covenant; 17:3 And hath gone and served other gods, and worshipped them, either the sun, or moon, or any of the host of heaven, which I have not commanded; 17:4 And it be told thee, and thou hast heard of it, and enquired diligently, and, behold, it be true, and the thing certain, that such abomination is wrought in Israel; 17:5 Then shalt thou bring forth that man or that woman, which have committed that wicked thing, unto thy gates, even that man or that woman, and shalt stone them with stones, till they die.

Never got why Christians ignore the Old Testamant. I thought it's still considered a part of the Bible. Does the New Testament instruct Christians to ignore the Old Testament? So no Genesis story etc?

In America,we live in a politically correct society. If you say something slighlty offensive, then your going to have a group of people that get all upset about. It has nothing to do with being cowards. It's just the society that we live in,these days.

Really? I mean the US does have quite a neo liberal elitist media where you can only say so much both on the left and right wing of the spectrum but there are quite a few well known politically incorrect radio hosts and Fox News.

They get annoyed when shows like south park try and portray Muhammad because its against there religion to draw or create something that someone thinks is Muhammad. its not against Christian religion to draw Jesus.

I watch fox news. How is fox news politically incorrect? If your talking about glenn beck, then I agree to a point. That guy is just insane in my opinion. Radio host only cater to a niche audience. You can't put these radio host and the main-stream media in the same category.

My main problem with this is that THEY aren't suppose to do that. NON-MUSLIMS don't have to follow the commandments of the Musilm religion, so I don't get what all the protests are about.

Google any empire and massacres have been committed by all of them. Don't forget European empires justified colonising the rest of the world by bringing 'Christianity' to the 'uncivilised heathens'. It also made it easier to kill them when they were degraded to mere beasts. And what do you expect Muslims to do when a Crusader army comes along? Welcome them with open arms? All 3 of the Abrahamic faiths are as violent as each other whether now or throughout history.

And I quote Richard Dawkins:-

"The God of the Old Testament is arguably the most unpleasant character in all fiction: jealous and proud of it; a petty, unjust, unforgiving control-freak; a vindictive, bloodthirsty ethnic cleanser; a misogynistic, homophobic, racist, infanticidal, genocidal, filicidal, pestilential, megalomaniacal, sadomasochistic, capriciously malevolent bully."

You can say Christians / churches fought against the Germans in WW2 yet if you look at the individuals who fought most were not necessary  Christians. Thus the church may have influenece but it's the governments that actually lead the war against Hitler. This is even true with the Crusades , they were more politicial then religious.

There is a time of peace and there is a time for war. Sometimes the violent act is the best act to follow. When it came to Allies vs Axis during WW2 both sides were extremely violent but I think everyone would agree Hitler had to be stopped no matter the cost. France found out the hard way  It was wrong to try to make peace with Hitler.

Another example cutting someone arm off is an extremely violent act yet doctors sometimes perform this very act to save someone life.

The Pope himself encouraged beleivers to join the Crusades. What more proof do you need?

I sure there were very good German men who  fought in WW2 because of the love of their country. I saw a doc where some Germans went into their subs knowing there was little chance of them coming back alive. The same with all wars including the Crusades.

I don't really want to take the time to explain the differences between the "politicial" churches vs independent ones. To put it nicely I'm not a fan of any Pope figure. Those in the past who were not fans paid the price with their blood.

So did the people who weren't Christian in general.

As for your first paragraph love for your country/religion shouldn't blind your better judgement

You apparently have not read the bible.

All that violence under the Old Covenant between God and the Jews doesnt apply to Christians who's relationship with God is based on the New Covenant which God established by sending Jesus Christ to die for all of mankind.

You really don't know your own religion.

Yes I do. While you understand nothing about Christianity and you're only making a fool of yourself in front of all these people.

Not sure why one of the Atheists on this site is explaining this, but here I go...

A woman was to be stored to death in following this passage in the Bible, and Jesus stepped in and said "He who is without sin, cast the first stone", and then he did not throw a stone.

So while the old testament has things in it that are to be followed (Like the 10 commandments), Jesus came along and updated how people should conduct themselves.

I mean if he changed nothing, there would be no difference between being a Christian or a Jew.

Some people in this thread conveniently ignore that, because it helps there argument.
