The obese guy is lazy... make the game good and release it without glitches and u wont need to update it.

Microsoft doesnt allow more than 5updates per game i think... Gears was a exception.

Lazy? I always thought Valve's games didn't have many bugs and were pretty complete when released. But you know what's up with TF2? Valve has added tons of new content and changes, and because of MS's policy, they can't release all that for free the same way they can on PC. I wouldn't call them lazy because of that.

Though the pace at which Valve makes games with such old technology is something to think about. Valve definitely has something wrong in their development process.

I don't get it.  Most multiplatform games I have played always seem to get their updates, patches, bug fixes, etc out first on Xbox Live.

Is he saying MS charges for them to have updates?  Because if so, doesn't Sony charge for bandwidth which updates will use?

I guess I am not following what he is saying from the small quotes out of context provided in the OP.  Someone want to expand on this?  I was always under the impression that developers loved XBL more than PSN for a plethora of reasons.

i'm pretty sure that sony would have made a deal with them on the bandwidth... I mean it's freken steam, they use 30 times more bandwidth than the PSN, hard to put a high price on it for them, they know the business.

Heck you'll probably have all the downloads for Valve updates and even play servers redirected to the steam network (so minimal cost for them and sony).

Valve games are great I agree.

But this guy is lame. Trashtalking about PS3, now trashtalking about 360.
"Come on! tell me how much you dislike coding on my platform of choice and how your games would be better on the other, I will buy more of your games!!! wait... no, I won't..."

Stupid move.

What does he mean? Game updates are allowed on PSN but not on Xbox?

Well Xbox game updates have to be small, just the patch nothing more

For PSN the game updates can include all the free to download stuff as well dlc so you just basically use an unlock code when you buy it

PSN system isn't perfect though, it's annoying as hell when you buy a new game only to have to sit through 15-30 minutes of updates to play it, talking to you LBP

Yeah I'm with Microsoft on this. To demand tight well-thought updates is the right thing. I hate to update a game every second week.

Statements like this one make me feel old.

I miss the time when a game released FLAWLESS. No need to patch, it just was perfect. N64 / PS1 games say hi.

I miss the time when developers did not talk shit about platforms. As a 1st party developer like Miyamoto (sorry for spelling) or Molyneux, one or two sentences about the competition might be entertaining in a way, but in general you hear the old and established developers talking more about their games.

In an interview with Newell you will hear more about platforms etc than the actual game.

In an interview with Hideo Kojima, Molyneux, Miyamoto, Sakaguchi or Itagaki you won't hear much about platforms, but more about the stuff they actually create. I prefer the oldschool way.

Imagine not having GamePass on your console...

You might want to take a peak at tf2 on PC to see what kind of updates valve does. It goes way beyond fixing glitches.

Time for hype

Ive been reading this thread and there seems to be a huge misunderstanding. He's not talking about fixing glitches, he's talking about releasing tons of new content. Go look at TF2 and look how much post release content was created, And its all free. This would be impossible on live due to MS restrictions, but possible on PSN.

no one else seems to feel the need to patch their games every other day.
