He's an idiot if he thinks he'll have as much creative freedom with Microsoft as he has now. They'll ask him to churn out sequel after sequel and if he doesn't want to make them, well tough luck! With Sony he isn't being forced to make the sequel for Heavy Rain. With Microsoft, they'd be pressured to high heavens, I'm willing to bet.

If they go multiplat, Microsoft won't be publishing either.

Naturally. But they will certainly pressure them into making sequels by throwing money around.

Doubtful, but keep up the conspiracy.

As long as game quality doesn't suffer on one or other platform it's all good.

This gets to the bigger issue of exclusivity vs. multi-platform.

Exclusivity is a reality. Without exclusivity we would not be able to differentiate one console from the other in terms of the experience. Exclusives matter because they have are tradition and as such are expected and wanted. Exclusives matter most to Microsoft, Nintendo, and Sony, not the game developers or publishers.

Multi-platform is what every game developer should aspire to. Making an exclusive game, you are in fact limiting your audience, thus limiting your market and total lifetime sales. Multi-platforming allows for a wider audience and possible higher lifetime sales. In essence, multi-platform is a win-win for both the individual game developer and the individual gamer.

EA and Bioware chose to multi-plat Mass Effect 2 for the very reasons I listed of a higher audience and higher lifetime sales. As a 360 owner, am I pissed that the greatest series of the 360 is being given to Sony gamers? Sure quite a bit, but I understand the reasons, which allow me to swallow that sour pill.

In my mind, Sony has more quality exclusives than Microsoft without a doubt. Final Fantasy and Metal Gear Solid are franchises I grew up with in my formative years and still have fond memories of to this day.  Furthermore, with doubt about the Final Fantasy 13 vs. being available for the 360, I feel as if it is a one way street where classic franchises are released and become phenomenons on the 360 to later be given to Sony gamers without 360 gamers getting something in return.

What I want in return is the Heavy Rain series going multi-plat. Is this too much to ask?

you'll never see Heavy rain on the 360.

1. Heavy rain devs officially said they will not be working on a heavy rain sequeal.

2.Heavy rain is published by SONY.

now this doesn't mean Quantic dreams can't make a new game that is multiplatform, look at it like Insomniac games resistance and ratchet is still exclusive because the IP is owned and published by SONY but they will be making a different game which is multiplat that will be published by EA.

This is the same situation with the Halo series. Bungie created it, but since they were contracted with Microsoft who under the contract retained the rights to the Halo franchise, Bungie once they leave Microsoft (I believe they have already left) will no longer be able to create a Halo game with a publisher other than Microsoft.

Where the hell has he said xbox ? Other platforms doesn't necessarily mean the 360.

Selective journalism to gather hits FTW !

They made an assumption but is it a bad one?

I mean looking at the state of PC gaming that would hardly open them up to a massive new audience.

Looking at the kind of games they make I dunno if they'll want to go for the Wii market

That leaves PS3 and 360.

but the PC is the home of the adventure game, and adventure (excluding "action" adventures, read shooters/brawlers with adventuring) games do better on PC than any other platform so it is logical that the latest branch in the genre would come to the PC lol.

They used to do well on PC

But Heavy Rain sales show where a lot of potential is.

Do you think a future game similar to Heavy Rain would do better on PC than on xbox 360?

True. 360 is the most like platform....I was just pointing out the obvious...lol... But the 3DS is getting a LOT of support it seems. It wouldn't surprise me if he is considering developing for 3DS...maybe even PSP or something ?

But lets face it...an article with this title would get more hits than an article that says "other platforms"

Edit : And state of the PC market ? *Looks at StarCraft II sales..... hmmm....kk..

3DS would be awesome for such a game......the 3D perspective could lead to fun things.

But since he is a western developer I dunno if he is that keen to put it on handhelds.......I mean Japanese devs are very keen on handhelds I just don't see the West being that keen with their "big" games.

And yeah the journalists are smart lol
