Good numbers for Metroid considering its typical sales.

An INCREASE for Wii Party is excellent.

And an AMAZING hold for Super Mario Galaxy 2.

And to top it off Wii>PS3 YTD another week. That's gotta frustrate a lot of people around here.

Actually that really puts it into proper perspective.   Relative to other Metroid releases in Japan it's sales are strong.

Famitsu numbers are more complete.

06/08/86 [NFC] Metroid (Famicom Disc System) (Nintendo) - / 1.040.000
14/02/03 [GBA] Metroid Fusion (Nintendo) - 49.680 / 155.528
28/02/03 [GCN] Metroid Prime (Nintendo) - 39.829 / 78.384
27/05/04 [GBA] Metroid: Zero Mission (Nintendo) - 39.112 / 85.045
10/08/04 [GBA] Famicom Mini: Metroid (Nintendo) - 14.900 / 50.353
26/05/05 [GCN] Metroid Prime 2: Echoes (Nintendo) - 17.680 / 40.355
19/01/06 [NDS] Metroid Prime: Pinball (Nintendo) - / 15.541
01/06/06 [NDS] Metroid Prime: Hunters (Nintendo) - 32.613 / 90.028
06/03/08 [WII] Metroid Prime 3: Corruption (Nintendo) - 34.151 / 74.647
19/02/09 [WII] New Play Control! Metroid Prime (Nintendo) - 5.200 / 20.607
11/06/09 [WII] New Play Control! Metroid Prime 2: Echoes (Nintendo) - 1.700 / 12.427
                  [Wii] Metroid: Other M (Nintendo) - 45.398 / NEW

best opening week since fusion (how is fusion that old????? that makes me feel old - i remember reading the previews like it was only a couple of years ago!!!).

considering fusion was on a handheld too and other m is a console offering, its even better considering the Japanese penchant for the handhelds. particularly back then when the gba had no real competition.

lets see if it has enough legs to top 100k...

Where is Super Metroid? hmm nevermind, just read in wikipedia it sold poorly in Japan....I guess Metroid was never Japan's cup of tea. That million the first one sold must be bogus, or maybe it was very original for 1986 and fell from grace quickly after...

LOL @ Metroid. Bombed, like I predicted.

What were you expecting Metroid to sell if it is not bombed?

not sure what the link means. Other M outsold every Metroid game first week in Japan since Metroid Fusion 8 years ago. If you compare it to Metroid or Super Metroid and set your expectation as such, of course it bombed. Otherwise, it is within expectation comparing to recent releases on different platforms.

MikeB predicts that the PS3 will sell about 140 million units by the end of 2016 and triple the amount of 360s in the long run.

Metroid lower than the Jap Preview, so I guess that's why some people think it came in low. Still has sold a lot more than Corruption did in Japan Week 1. So it's a good start, and should leg it out to over 100K (Corruption is at 70K).

PS3 almost 10:1 with 360. Still an appreciable gap with Wii too ~5K. Looks like PS3 is set to generally be hovering slightly above Wii for a while.

Yep, Wii is for casuals and doesn't sell hardcore software either ...

fixed. And by hardcore I mean games that tap very slightly on a casual audience, for example : not many games on the Wii.

I really really can't wait for the "hardcore" and "casual" buzz words to die. They are nothing but made up titles that attempt to categorize and divide gamers.

I don't understand how Japan hates the 360 so much.

I think the general consensus from early on in the generation is that it's unreliable. They probably don't like paid online either and Microsoft being an American company doesn't help.

Bet with Conegamer and AussieGecko that the PS3 will have more exclusives in 2011 than the Wii or 360... or something.

WoW...

PS3 still ahead

360 back to the gutter..=.=

Wii no boost from metroid?

Boost with 30k sales??? I guess no.

Metroid did kinda bad... it'll probably just leg past 100k now, which is decent but I'd really hoped for at least twice that.  A lot of decisions for the game seemed based on making it more appealing in Japan imo, and the results don't totally reflect that I think.

Basara 3 Wii's sudden rise is baffling?  Where'd that come from?

Wii hardware rose slightly, while PS3 declined a bit more.  They'll probably meet again this month in the high teens, when PS3 finally reaches it's baseline.

And retail has totally fucked MoHun Village imo.  This game should've been a multimillion seller given the brand (MoHun) and concept (meets Animal Crossing), but the lack of retailer confidence has totally bungled it debut.  Should have great legs, but it really should've done way more upfront (and likely would have, demand is certainly there).

Wait, Wii has more games in the top 20 than any other system?  When was the last time this happened?

  • Wii: 7
  • PSP: 6
  • DS: 4
  • PS3: 3
  • 360: 0
  • PS2: 0
