Some days are worse than others with 3-4 hours of downtime per day. I don't know or understand what is going on, or why this is happening. There seem to be a lot of errors. No plus symbols, the frame the comes up to link pictures or links occasionally breaks, posts have been coming up blank. It's been happening so often that I've been C-A,C-C (select all, copy) before I post anything. The link to send a private message within threads doesn't work. Profiles I click on link to a list of all members, PMs lose all formatting structure once they are sent. Scrolling is laggy. Some pages take forever to load (even on 5MB broadband), like message center. I don't like the quote frame because anything you type is lost if something happens (like, you can't hit the back button and have all your information still there). In the hot-topics section, threads are incorrectly labeled as having new posts, ie: a new post is made in the thread, and the hot tpoic listing says: 0 new posts. I'd like some answers or at least affirmation that something is being done.
Oh ok, ioi just posted that it's being fixed. |
That's actually a user choice. If they set their profile to be viewable by nobody, attempts to do so go off to the main user list.

Monster Hunter: pissing me off since 2010.

oh, well...still. There's a lot of problems!!

| ioi said: @theprof00 - the thread was about server downtime which was caused by database optimisiation errors (correct indexing basically) that was only showing up when we had a surge of traffic. That has now been fixed (for this particular issue anyway). As for gamrConnect generally, most of the site is being reworked with vast improvements. Our initial plan for the site was to have two developers working from April - May to build gamrConnect, what happened was that both had to drop out and we couldn't find any replacements in time (it takes a while for a developer to become accustomed to our database and server setup and so on) so essentially I coded gamrConnect myself in about 2 weeks. This is what we have currently. We had to launch the site on June 1st and since the other areas of the site were complete I decided to go ahead with gamrConnect in "gimped" or "beta" mode for now. The plan is for a total rework of the site, fixing all bugs and bringing loads of improvements to the table. This is happening now but will take at least one if not two months to do (since we want to do a good job of things this time). So the message is (and has always been) - be patient, a new version of gamrConnect is due sometime in October and will fix all current issues as well as bring back a number of new features and features we had before. |
awesome ioi thanks.
Please don't take offense. The new site is great. I like it much better than the old one. These issues I've had aren't THAT big of a deal to me. More accurately, these criticisms have surfaced because of the downtime, not by their own merit.
I was expecting that downtime was being done to remedy the issues by bringing the site down, changing code etc etc, but I see that it is only half of whole problem. When I noticed that these issues weren't being fixed I had to wonder what was going on, and was a little bitter about the experience.
Now, I'm not saying these criticisms aren't justified, they are valid points that need to be addressed but I'm sure you are already aware of them and working on them. I'm very excited at the sound of a redesigned gamrconnect.
Thanks for everything now, then, and later.
