Forums - Microsoft - MicroSoft Becoming to Confident ?

new controller is same price...(with play&charge kit)

OP, Unless I didnt get your point, your comparison need a bit of re-work. Seems like your implying that MS is overpricing (selling at higher profit % then usual) due to confidence. But Sony never overpriced their hardware or accessories. They certainly were confident, but it wasnt overprice.

Wasnt it the yearly price just in US that recived the increase?  and only monthly ones for everyone else?

yes they have, and it started in 2005.

Hmmm... I think it started in 2006. I remember the launch of a $600 console.

Hence, MS would have more competitive pricing if Sony were bigger competition this gen.

so the xbox wasnt being too confident? 479 euro launch in europe? i dont know but was online a paid service with the original xbox? and in this gen their is rrod.

i acknowledge that sony are too confident, im not blind, i dont worship sony.

Xbox Brand sucess might be making Microsoft bullshitting on us Gamers... They look like Sony at the beggining this Gen and im not liking this.

Have they told gamers to get a second job or that 5 million Kinects would sell at launch even if there were no games for it?  There's your answer to them being as arrogant as Sony was.

The only source I could find was from Wikia.

Europe (prices include tax)

  • 479€ (Launch Price (Ireland) (March 14 2002]]),
  • 299€ (Launch Price (Rest of Europe) and Ireland April 2 2002)
  • 249€ (August 30 2002)
  • 199€ (April 10 2003)
  • 149€ (August 27 2004)
  • 99€ (Ireland; Christmas 2005 promotional price)
  • 99€ (Spain, January 2006 promotional price)
  • 99€ (Italy, 2006)
  • 79€ (The Netherlands, March 2006)

According to this, only Ireland had the console for 479€. Ultimately, the Xbox was reasonably priced in the US. I'm not sure what was going on in Europe.

Charging for Xbox Live has paid off greatly. They got the ball rolling on the original Xbox and it has become a huge on the 360.

Anyhow, I'm basically just saying Sony's bad decisions allowed MS to not worry about competitive pricing. Which is why their pricing right now seems arrogant.

i wasnt talking about their pricing. when i said that ms startng being to confident in 2005 im talking about their 3rd party strategy, rrod, no integrated wifi and in my opinion the high price of xbox live. they could have killed of sony if their wasnt rrod, or if they atleast fixed the problem, if that happened the whole comeback with the slim and great games in 2009 would have never happened.

sony and ms are to confident, hell even nintendo is sometimes, the thing is which to much money things start going though your head, it happened with money, and it might happen with ms.

Everytime I come to VG Chartz I keep coming up against US gamers quoting the full RRP (Recommended Retail Price) for games. In the UK many of us hardly ever pay the RRP, there are constant price wars between online and main street retailers, for example Halo Reach I'm getting for a little under £38.00 new when it's RRP price is £50.00. 1 year Xbox Live I got for £33, it's RRP is £40. Surely it's the same thing in the US?

It isn't. For some strange reason everything in USA is full price.

Games in UK are dirty cheap.

All shops have the same game price in US??? WTF

In Ireland i have to check 3,4 shops for price. The difference in price between them can be even 15 euro.

Got RDR for 39,99 in Argos instead of 54.99 in GameStop
