VG247 can exclusively confirm that Oddworld developer Just Add Water is to release a revamped, HD version of Oddworld: Stranger’s Wrath for PS3 next Easter. Get the first shots down below.

The game marks the franchise’s first outing on a PlayStation console since 1998’s Oddworld: Abe’s Exoddus.

Stranger was originally released in 2005. The new version will be download-only.

“Since word got out that we’ve been working with Oddworld Inhabitants there have been many rumours circulating about what we’re working on,” said JAW boss Stewart Gilray.

“Oddworld: Stranger’s Wrath is the first project in what we believe will be a long and fruitful relationship. Having the chance to update this great title and release it on PS3 is just a brilliant opportunity, not least for us, but for the fans too.”

The game will ship in 720p and will come complete with normal mapping, self-shadowing, re-mastered dialogue, Move support and additional material, of which JAW’s saying nothing as yet.

JAW’s most recent game was PSN shooter Gravity Crash. The British studio announced in July that it was working on Oddworld titles across “multiple platforms”.

Discussions between JAW and series creators Lorne Lanning and Sherry McKenna began back in June last year.

Cool. Love the PS1 Oddworld games, DL'd them from PSN, will definitely be adding Stranger's Wrath to the library. And with Move support. Could be good, not every game will be improved with Move support, but given I'll have Move I'll try it out, can always go back to DS3 if I don't like it.

Wonder why PS3 and not 360 as well?  I thought the original release was popular on Xbox?  Seems odd to skip the 360, particularly in the current climate.  Or is the original backwards compatible on 360 and they think that'll harm sales of a re-vamped version?

I always enjoyed the Oddworld series and this is good news for PS3 owners.  Everyone should support this game cause it will give them incentive to keep the Oddworld going.  It's sort of strange that this isn't going to be released on the 360 as well.  I guess they think the original may eat into its sales?  I don't have the original game anymore to see if it works on the 360 or not.  But I bet this may be the case.

I wonder what they are working on that is Multi-plat?  Hopefully it won't be to long until whatever it is comes out.
