Thank god that removing otherOS stopped the PS3 from being hacked...

Well for an extent it did. PS Jailbreak doesn't exploit the otherOS feature to operate. That was the first geohot hack.

They made the geohot hack because of the removal of OtherOS.

Sony wasted their time, and made some hackers some money.  Pirates aren't gonna just start buying games b/c you impede them, they'll just find another way.

It's not about stopping hackers, it's about stopping their programs reaching the consumers DUH

Its an evidence, they didnt remove "other OS", they removed PSN. Not that I particularly approve doing so, but still, its in their rights. Anyway, thanks for the heads up.

It's their right to take away an advertised feature?

was other OS any time advertised in public publicity? was that written is the console box or something... i never saw any advertise to other OS... maybe i was distracted or something but can any one give me a link or something of sony advertising other OS? its just to satisfy my curiosity...

Proudest Platinums - BF: Bad Company, Killzone 2 , Battlefield 3 and GTA4

Not a surprise.  Features change over time.  Sony deserved to win as I have seen many broader use features dropped from electronics in the past that didn't see law suits.

This is a win for consumers as well (Believe it or not) because it helps foster the electronics manufacturers to keep changing their products when it makes sense.

Sony advertising "other OS" or not isnt a problem. Its PSN you are forced to loose if you do not upgrade, not "other OS". Leave you console in the same state then when you purchase it and you will not loose "other OS". But, I cannot answer your question, I dont know if they ever advertise "other OS" or not.

I don't care which one gets removed, Other OS or PSN, but either way, it's the customer that loses something that was supposed to come with the product. And I don't care what the EULA of PSN says, if it doesn't say it on the box of PS3. The average customer doesn't know they can lose PSN if they don't update. I guess I wouldn't have known if before Sony removed Other OS if I didn't own a PS3, and I don't consider myself the average customer.

PSN doesnt come with the PSN only access to the PSN.  Which is all you would lose if you choose to keep Other OS.  Also if the average customer signs up for PSN, they have to agree to the EULA,  which states that they can lose it if they dont agree to the terms.
