By the way, the Jailbreak thing went entirely open source. It is possible for anyone to make their own in ~1 minute.

Won't tell you how though since I don't know if things like that are OK on these forums.

You can PM me with the info, just can't post it on forums.

Though I hate pirates, I would use this just for the PS2 compatibility (KH FTW)

Unicorns ARE real - They are just fat, grey and called Rhinos

Investing in a $20 USB board could get you started right now since PSJailbreak went completely open source.

That is if they weren't all sold out everywhere. Well, the ones that work anyways.

Got a retro room? Post it here!

Software emulation has been available in the development SKU's firmware for at least a year now.  It just runs rather poorly (or at least it did as of late last year).  It's been mentioned by a few developers on gaf in the past.

It's in our firmware as well, only disabled, so I could easily see it being enabled via jailbreak.

As it states, with Jailbreak all PS3s will go from non-PS2 backwards compatibility to full PS2 compatibility.

Forget it. The hardware just isn't there anymore and no amount of hacking will magically generate the required performance for a pure software emulation.

I'm sure the ps3's internal hardware is perfectly capable of running ps2 software emulation.  It's just a matter of putting in the time and resources to get it working.  If anybody can do it, Sony can.

You have to remember, ps1 emulation was still pretty crappy even on high end PCs as of 2004/2005, yet now we have ps1 games running flawlessly on a weak handheld device from the same period (PSP).    Sony knows their hardware inside and out, and I have no doubt will see software emulation return at some point.  It simply has too many benefits for Sony for it not to reappear, like the added value backwards compatability gives to their hardware and the money to be made by selling ps2 games through PSN.

Maybe this can force their hand and we get it for the Holidays.

Yeah yeah I know, wishful thinking.

Do what?

Anyways, this hack is really taking off in ways nobody expected, especially SONY.

Yesterday hackers were finding ways to get it to work by using a PSP instead of a USB device. Today they are making progress in getting Android based products to work as well as a PS Jailbreak. Everything SONY related is working against them now, their PSP and everthing Android, haha.

Not to mention that they also found how to get you to no longer need to device to be installed after getting it up and running the first time.

I can't imagine where the scene will take this before the Holidays are up.

Edit- Now they apparently have it working on some Nokia phones as well.

This is BAD!

No. lol.

But a Xbox can emulate PSX.

What is interesting is that X360 is more similar to PS2 than PS3.
