Hmmm... PS2 support on PS3 via Jailbreak?

Forget it. The hardware just isn't there anymore and no amount of hacking will magically generate the required performance for a pure software emulation.

I'm sure the ps3's internal hardware is perfectly capable of running ps2 software emulation.  It's just a matter of putting in the time and resources to get it working.  If anybody can do it, Sony can.

You have to remember, ps1 emulation was still pretty crappy even on high end PCs as of 2004/2005, yet now we have ps1 games running flawlessly on a weak handheld device from the same period (PSP).    Sony knows their hardware inside and out, and I have no doubt will see software emulation return at some point.  It simply has too many benefits for Sony for it not to reappear, like the added value backwards compatability gives to their hardware or the money to be made by selling ps2 games through PSN.

Maybe this can force their hand and we get it for the Holidays.
