I always thought it was dumb to make cards then exclude them from being used.

Here's what I got from the anime: Brain Control lets you control a monster for 800 LP. Change of Heart for one turn. How's that broken. -_- |
No wonder you think brain control, or change of heart isn't broken. It's mostly because of syncro summons! Think of it as a fusion summon with no polmeryzation, no monster materials, and Crazy monsters.
Here is an example. I use change of heart to take your gemini elf. I summon a lvl.2 tuner (lvls are important for syncro summons). I throw those two monsters away to special summon a 2800 atk point monster with a built in monster reborn (Goyo Guardian).

very stupid.. |
Shonen Jump release the official playable Obelisk the Tormentor last December, hopefully they'll make the other 2 God cards playable.
I love Yu-Gi-Oh! but prefered it much better during the original series and not the new card types (such as Syncro and Light Swarm)
The reason for banned cards is for 2 reasons: To balance the game and for business of course. If they didnt ban those awesome cards then there'd be less of a reason for people to buy the new cards and they'll just continue to use the old ones.
They honestly need to make up their mind about Monster Reborn; like WTF? They had it free two ban lists ago, ban it and then open it up again. And why the hell did they think adding one more Mystical Space Typhoon would make up for the loss of Heavy Storm? And give back Dark Magician of Chaos!

Well... after playing Tagforce 4 I gotta say.
It makes sense. Espiecally Rescue Kitty... that thing is the biggest broken creature in the game. Basically, tribute this level 2 card card and get a level 6 monster with 2800 attack that gains you your opponents monsters after you destroy them.
I still need to find if there is a way to turn the banlist off like in the other tagforce games. Man I love collectable card gamse in forms where you don't have to shell out stupid prices to gamble to get stuff you want.

But who's fault is that? If they didn't want it that way, don't do it...

casual vs competitive play. When your with your friends who cares if you follow the list or not. In competitive play it matters as balancing the game is key to allow an even playing field. The game is about strategy to win, not one-turn-kills.
If your having this much of an issue with Yu-Gi-Oh's ban list, try Magic the Gathering. Every few sets released several thousand cards are banned from being played mattering the style of competition that is being played (casual, set-specific, legacy, classic, etc).

Yeah, because they can know the full effect that every card can have on every type of deck, sure...
These things are only banned in tournemants, for money, you guys don't play them, pepole who do play them understand why there are limitations and bans on them.
Bet with Dr.A.Peter.Nintendo that Super Mario Galaxy 2 won't sell 15 million copies up to six months after it's release, the winner will get Avatar control for a week and signature control for a month.

Yes, but that falls into the same line of reasoning as banned characters/items/stages in Smash Bros. The game is what it is

I think the difference is... unforeseen combos in Yu-Gi-Oh can kill your opponent before they can even move.
If there was a character in Brawl who had a move that killed everyone else with a push of a button before they could do anything... they would fix it or ban it. Cause... i mean come on.
Ban Lists really aren't any different then patches for videogames that have unforseen bugs. I mean is glitching in a FPS and getting to a spot underground where you can kill everybody and they can't kill you part of the game and free from banning from servers? Just because the developer didn't know by combining crouch, jump and a stack of crates you canf all through?
