Forums - Sales Discussion - When did the PS3 outsell the 360?

VGChartz had the PS3 beating 360 3 weeks this month, after some adjustments. Only one day did they show PS3 beating 360 on the front page. They made more adjustments and now they have the 360 back on top for all those weeks. Maybe they will make more adjustments next week and PS3 will be on top again, who knows.

Several weeks in the last month have been close enough that they are ties. The difference in PS3 & 360 numbers has been well within the margin of error.

One of the biggest faults with VGChartz is that they give the false impression that their numbers are accurate by giving sales numbers like:

Wii: 644,709
360: 361,108
PS3: 351,345

In actuality, these numbers are completely made up. This is probably a large part of the reason NPD has no respect for VGChartz.

VG Chartz should display their numbers rounded off to 2 digit accuracy (They aren't actually accurate to the 2nd digit, but close enough.) Their displayed numbers should look like this:

Wii: 640,000
360: 360,000
PS3: 350,000

These are numbers calculated from sparse data, and then recalculated over and over as more data trickles in.

VGChartz would get a lot more respect from the entire game community if they stopped trying to represent their numbers as being far more accurate than they could ever possibly be.

I think VGChartz is a wonderful site and has some very useful data, but they are doing themselves and their readers an injustice .

My prediction (Jan 15th, 2008), total sales by end of 2008: Wii - 35 million X360 - 25 million PS3 - 21 million

Acording to older dates PS3 was outselling X360. It was even in a 3 weeks in a row at some point. But the numbers get adjusted often here on 360 is back on top.
