No it isnt. Its the Epic 4G. I edited the last post.

I just would suggest getting it off Amazon since the phone on Amazon costs $199 rather then the Sprint store's own $249.

LOL I edited my post probably right after you clicked quote. I realized my mistake, however, he still can't buy it from Amazon as that still requires a contract which he doesn't want to do right now as he still has 8mos left.

can you wait? id suggest waiting on the Samsung Galaxy S

How is this helpful? That's not a Sprint phone, and clearly I can't afford an extremely high-end Android.

Yes it is, its coming out I think in 2 weeks for Sprint.

Already out, its called the 'Captivate' and Amazon is having a great sale on one. For new account holders its free, but for people upgrading its $99.

However, he wants to buy without a contract so that cuts this brand new phone out.

Again, my 2 year agreement doesn't expire for 8 months, and that's $200 only with a new 2 year contract. Without it it's $400, and I obviously can't even get close to affording that. Plus, going to 4G adds $10 a month to the sprint service plan and I don't want to pay for something that won't be available in my area for a year and I most likely won't use much anyway.

OT

You want to get the phone with the best specs and screen interface.

Then root it and put 2.2 on yourself.

You'll have a far better phone and all the features of the latest Androids. Including tethering.

Interesting. How hard is it to root it, and would I lose access to updates/app features by doing so? Cause spec wise the Moment is still better than the Intercept in every way.

rooting it is like tossing out all the crap you get from a prebuilt PC and putting vanilla windows on instead. It improves the speed, battery life, and gives you access to every hardware feature that the carrier might block.

On the downside you will then need to continue the upgrade process through Google directly and nor carrier (not sure if this is a bad thing as the carrier tends to f it up). Additionally it voids your warranty unless you were to put back the carrier's rom before you took it in to get fixed/replaced should something happen.

Other than that, there is no real loss. You'll have better phone that is truly put to the full capabilities that both the manufacturer as well as Google had intended.

Just google 'root moment' to see how the process works and anyone elses comments on the before/after experience.

Looks like these are the sites to hit up on rooting the Moment.

Think I need to do a better job describing rooting here.

1. It literally means gettign 'root' access to the linux kernal in the Android device.

2. Then you'll have to replace the manufacturers image with a rom of your choice to get best features.

Is there a reason you cant wait until you are ready for an upgrade?   Is their something wrong with your current phone?

Yes, about a million things. It's dropping calls, holds battery for less than 24 hours even when not in use, pocket dials people constantly, literally turns off for no reason while in use.

Well that makes sense I guess.  I only ask because if you cold hold out the EVO is worth it but because you cant then I dont know what to tell you.  The Hero is actually a good phone,  I had it before my EVO.  Dont know much about the 2 Samsung phones you listed, but Samsung does makes nice phones.

Hey Naz, lots of companies offer some sort of price cut for each month that you used your phone.  Maybe you won't have to pay the entire early termination fee.  Look into that.

Sprint only offers $75 off a new phone for 2 year contracts renewed before they expire.
