possibly Dread on DS or 3DS

What I want: 2D Metroid on the 3DS (3D environments, 2D plane), like Super Metroid

OR Metroid Prime continuation on the Wii, not like MP3 (no motion control, no story, no voice acting, more open-world)

What will happen: More Sakamoto bad-Fusion-fanficness (Seriously, Other M is a Fusion clone plus anime)

Sakamoto killed any possibility of a real 2D Metroid by saying that 2D Metroid fans should think of Other M as the future of 2D Metroids.

If Metriod: Other M does well, they will probably do some sort of follow up. If it doesn't do so well, then I think they'll give metriod a break for a while.

I'd like a sprite based Metroid 2 remake on DS, to bring it in line with Super/Fusion/Zero Mission.  One last 2D game before they do an Other M style game on 3DS...

Look at the sales of metroid. Nintendo had excellent sales for Zelda and mario this generation, but none for metroid. It needs to expand its audience. Just look.

If Other M fails, Samus could be shelved for a while - maybe a  gen - or go handheld only. It went with more action and linearity for a reason. The scanning and backtracking in the last metroid felt like too much work - at least for me.  It needs to sell.  This game seems more open, straight forward, then the last. I think it has a good chance of having succes it. Two million would be really nice.

For any butthurt hoping the game will fail, be wary... it might be a long time before you see Samus again.

Where's Metroid: Zero Mission?

Don't know. It's not listed on VGchartz. It was a remake of sorts

So was Classic NES Series: Metroid. Anyways wikipedia says that game sold about 1 million worldwide.

there's no way Nintendo would shelve Samus for awhile regardless of Other M's sales; she's way too big an icon to do something like that to.

I'm not so sure. Metroid dropped from  top sales of 3.4 million to 1.5 million. Nintendo can't be happy with that.

Don't forget. They also shelved starfox for a while. It's sales dropped too.
