the day to night transition was alright, definitely the best that i've seen, but i'm not going to call it perfect just because it was done in a noticeable *series* of increasing darkness rather than something that appeared to be a smooth and seamless transition

Well you can't get a smooth transition like that unless a Solar Eclipse is taking place.

Unless its an endurance race of course.
