Forums - Gaming - Backlash against 3D - New Movies BOMB - NYT

I'm tired of 3-D films.  The 3-D pulls me out of the story, and makes characters look like cardboard cut-outs hovering in front of a background.  Inception was outstanding and would've been dreadful if it was in 3-D.  I'm proud of Christopher Nolan for not butchering that film.

I think the trend is about to crash, personally.  At least where movies and TV are concerned.

3-D is very important. If a movie is not in 3-D I get very disapointed.

Inception is the only exception I will make.

What a sad, shallow life you must lead...

The 3D fad will die out. It won't last. A good proportion of the population can't even see in 3D due to eye conditions. Not to mention that many people get headaches and/or nausea from watching in 3D.

?!? only a very small proportion of the population cannot see in 3D. The one that are missing one or two eyes that is.

That's not the only reason that people can't see 3D properly.  I've read that the proportion of people who can't see 3D properly is about 12%.

Im personally not aware of a disease that prevent people with 2 eyes to see in 3D. I would like if you can point me at the information.

I don't mind 3d movies in general.

What I don't like at all are movies that focus too much on cheesy 3D effects than on the general acting, plot, storyline etc.

To me, 3D should be incidental, not the reason to see the movie: make it more immersive than overwhelming.

i.e the movie should still be a good movie even without 3D.

I don't want to see an in-your-face tech demo kind of film that all it has going for it is effects

the 1st 3D movie I saw was My Bloody Valentine 3D.... so ya I hate 3D too

I haven't read the thread, but all I have to say is it comes down to price. A 3d movie is usually 50% more around here. Its just not worth   it except for the really big movies or the ones you really follow. I am sure the pricing will drop and when it does it will be worth it.

Great read! Add PIRHANA 3D to the list of bombs.

3D is garbage in my opinion.  I get dizzy watching it, and it adds nothing to my enjoyment of the film. Especially since it costs  5$ more per ticket

I think 3D is great IMO. It adds tons to my enjoyment of the film. Doesnt matter if it costs $5 more.

btw Piranha 3D rocks. Dont miss

With an extra $3.50 per ticket, on top of the already expensive ticket price, I would expect a backlash.  Some theaters only show the 3D and not giving the option of 2D.  I'm not willing to shell out that much each time to see a movie.  Avatar was my first 3D movie that I've watched and I enjoyed it.  However, I also own it on Blu-ray and it is better imo cause I can focus on the movie and not worry about my eyes hurting or getting a headache.

Well there haven't been many movies that I really was glad that I saw in 3D the big two I can think of are Coroline and How to Train your Dragon, there have been others I've enjoyed but didn't stand out as much.  Toy Story 3 is also up there oh and Cloudy With a Chance of Meatballs.
