Forums - Gaming - Ever wanted to be inside a game ? (Future of videogames)

I always tried to imagine how the future of videogames will be in 20-30-40 years. I always end up with at best super expenisive holo Tvs.

Holoprojection will always be complex and damn expensive because its going to cost a lot of energy and require for always very expenisve hardware. Also there are a lot of problems yet which probably wont be solved soon. Liquid movements deep colors which arent transparent . Also the costs will always be high in the millions since there is no moores law for laser beams. And the energy will be rediculously expensive.

3D with 3D tvs is nice but you cant walk in the TVs and you are not able to see things which are behind or on the side of objects.

So I came to the conclusion that I will never walk in a artifical world like in a holodeck in my lifetime.

But now I discovered a new technology which will be relatively cheap and better then a possible holo projection.

In 20-30-40 years time you will be able to walk inside a movie and everything will look like in the reality. You will be able to see things like a PC Screen in the air even if its not there. You will be able to play videogames by beeing in the game. And everything will look like reality.

But how how can this be

This will be able to project photons directly in your eye and you still can see the environment.

The picture will be perfect if the number of the photon emitting stuff is as high as the number of rods and cones in the back of your eye. Probably even way sooner.

ofocurse you would need an extremly powerful CPU/GPU to process all these things but its possible and this would also be relatively cheap. In the next decades we will see this we will be able to be inside games playing horror games in special rooms where the floor moves as you do and you will be able to see everything like its real. Or look TVs or watch movies and stand inside the movies.

The whole entertainment industry will change. A 3D Plasma TV will be as primitive for our children as a grammophone to us.

Silent Hill will be a totaly different experience. And most people would be scared like hell if they would have to be in that world.

Thats what Natal would be good for.

Capturing every movement of you and transfer it into a game where you are the character.  And the floor where you can walk infinte times in a certain direction and stay on the same point is also already developed.  That would be like a holodeck only difference is that you cant touch things.

Ofcourse they talk in the article just of screens stuff like a HUD Display and single items. But this technology will develop and once they project just one dot on your retina and humanity already can build smaller electronic parts then the rod and cones in your eye. There is no physical limitatition to enhance this contact lens screen to make everything happen I have said above.

I am confident I will see stuff like that before I die.

I never thought of that possibily before so I was pretty sure technology wont be far enough that I will see a holodeck like technology in my lifetime. But since today I am almost sure I will withness it.

Face the future.. Gamecenter ID: nikkom_nl (oh no he didn't!!)

I've always had this insane desire to have the best Harry Potter video game ever.

Like where you spend your days running about performing spells and engaging in duels. It uses real wand movement and voice commands. And it has every spell ever in the books, from the most common like Expelliarmus to ones that no one has ever heard of like Locomotor Mortis.

I hope it comes true!

...or am I crazy?
