Forums - Gaming - Final Fantasy XIV's Play-Limiting Fatigue System Explained

I think Ultima Online had the best implemention as far as limiting players goes.

They had it set up so that for the first hour of gameplay everyday, you gained skills/stats faster than during subsequent hours of play. People could grind all day long, but that first hour (power hour as they called it) made it just a tad more accessible to newcomers and casual players. Granted the game still required huge amounts of time to get anywhere, but it was something... I guess.

for me this would be a good thing as I only play videogames a max of 2 hours a day. Except, not making final fantasy an MMO would be a better thing for me. :D

I have the beta's and I stand by that MMO's are extremely boring to me. Everquest I played the longest only to concluded that I wasted my life being bored.

If people dont like it/buy it. They'll change it and everyone will be happy. So if this is true (which it may not be) and you don't like it. dont buy it. If you buy it and complain, they won't really care most likely.

So how is this a good thing for you?

Remember, you get no bonus for this, you only get normal experience.  Also remember there is no penalty what-so-ever for leveling slowly.  The quests will not be used up and the items will still be there when you reach the appropriate level.

The only people this hurts are the people that want to concentrate on a single main job.  For the uber-hardcore people, not a lot of difference since they will level multiple jobs anyways.  For the people that play less than 8 hours a week they won't even notice this.  Keep in mind also that to play this game you must pay a monthly fee and the game is effectively stopping you from playing even though you're paying a fee.

Also, this was from a talk after Gamescon.  I don't have the source handy but it is true, not just Kotaku reporting on it.  If you're really that interested in a source browse any of the FFXI boards.

it's a good thing for me because I won't play it either way. And the more it sucks the less likely people are to buy it. Thus the less likely square-enix will make another final fantasy mmo in the future. Some people applied this logic to hoping FFXIII wouldn't sell. That's why I signed up for the beta. So I wouldn't be like ZOMG I have to buy this because it's final fantasy (which is a bad thing, but I would do it nonetheless).

The only negative is people that I like that like the game will be dissapointed. Thats about it. And I once again will give Kotor MMO a chance, even though wanting kotor 3 much more.

Now after thinking about it for a sec, you're refering to the my phrase of it would be good for me. Now I will say I didn't put much thought into that, because I don't really plan on playing it even more even though i still have the beta. So yes, what I probably said wasn't very smart or whatever.

I first saw this on the site like sakuracomplex... or whatever that site that has like porn on it from n4g that posts often incorrect articles that include flaming in the article.

I will also say this is a really bad idea. I love square enix despite the critisism they get these days but this isn't very intelligent. Even for profits I don't see how this helps. Unless they made a tiny game and are trying to milk gamers for money because they have to play it longer.

My 2 favorite Dev's have been annoying this past week or 2 :P.

i don't play as much as i used to , and especially not MMO's i won't hit the limit , but this is such an idiotic move, i don't need any parenting, i am a grown up person and i know when to stop playing.

This is a bad idea. When ps3 players get to play it'll be difficult to xp because the PC players will be rocking the endgame.

That actually shouldn't matter in the least and doesn't even have anything to do with the topic...

It has everything to do with the topic. Asking to pay a monthly fee to play a game and then limiting how long they can play their favorite class without penalties seems like a very bad idea indeed. limiting one class to an hour and change per day of full experience in any given week. That seems very bad, and wont be justice for players hoping to focus on a single class.

example.... "oops, my exp is capped, got to go cant xp anymore"

GPU: MSI 4090 SUPRIM X 24G
Motherboard: MSI MEG X670E GODLIKE
RAM: CORSAIR DOMINATOR PLATINUM 32GB DDR5

Gaming Console: PLAYSTATION 5 PRO

yeah but what does it have to do with PS3 and PC players?

I wasn't interested in the game either way, but this a ridiculously bad idea.  Square needs to put down the pipe and get back to not sucking.

Wow I use to play UO on Sonoma and agree. Congrats on recalling that far back.

Honestly I've never gotten into another MMO thanks to UO - it was the best MMO ever.

It's just that simple.

Right, that part is the topic, I'm referring to your when PS3 players get it... comment.

It doesn't matter that the PC players will be rocking the end game by then because, again, the end game will not be used up.  You can come two years late to the party and assuming the game is still there you can still get to the end game and enjoy it just as if you had gotten the game day one.

About the ps3 comment. Just imagine how many pc players reached their xp limit at any given time. Now imgaine a brand new ps3 player who wants to xp with a group. If you prefer soloing then it might not be a problem, but some people hate solo'ing and some quest/mission will require team work. One good thing however, you'll still get gil and items. I'm just saying, it is going to be tough and a deal breaker.

I can't elaborate any better than that.

There will be a lot of new players to team with when the PS3 version release, so it doesnt really matters where the PC players are. Anyway, EXP limit or not, the PC players will still be more advance.
