Forums - Gaming - Final Fantasy XIV's Play-Limiting Fatigue System Explained

Stupid idea is stupid, the hardcore will still outpace the casual player, even if only by a little bit a week, over time that little bit per week will add up.

IE: I have a life (Not really but bear with me) and I can't play 8 hours every week, the hardcore WILL play those 8 hours every week and slowly outpace me

Stupid idea is stupid.  What the hell is SE smoking?  I want some of that shit

Unicorns ARE real - They are just fat, grey and called Rhinos

There is no source that I can tell. And it's Kotaku.

But if this is the case... then square enix made a bad decisions, and will likely reverse. Hey remember what they did with galaxy :P everyone can be a jedi! only they did it the wrong way. They shouldn't have made this mistake.

for me this would be a good thing as I only play videogames a max of 2 hours a day. Except, not making final fantasy an MMO would be a better thing for me. :D

I have the beta's and I stand by that MMO's are extremely boring to me. Everquest I played the longest only to concluded that I wasted my life being bored.

If people dont like it/buy it. They'll change it and everyone will be happy. So if this is true (which it may not be) and you don't like it. dont buy it. If you buy it and complain, they won't really care most likely.

MMO's can't be enjoyed by everyone because of the time thing. This is a good thing that will hopefully open the doors to those who always wnted to play a MMO. The faster you level, the more advantages you have to make gil, obtain gear, and have more control over the economy.

Not everyone can waste half of their day in front of a computer.

This is exactly the problem. Square is punishing those who want to level a lot so those who don't have a lot of playtime won't feel left behind, instead of making it easier to level up for those without a lot of playtime. They're going about it the wrong way.

And what if someone can?

Their money should go to waste?

How can you agree with this idea!

So how is this a good thing for you?

Remember, you get no bonus for this, you only get normal experience.  Also remember there is no penalty what-so-ever for leveling slowly.  The quests will not be used up and the items will still be there when you reach the appropriate level.

The only people this hurts are the people that want to concentrate on a single main job.  For the uber-hardcore people, not a lot of difference since they will level multiple jobs anyways.  For the people that play less than 8 hours a week they won't even notice this.  Keep in mind also that to play this game you must pay a monthly fee and the game is effectively stopping you from playing even though you're paying a fee.

Also, this was from a talk after Gamescon.  I don't have the source handy but it is true, not just Kotaku reporting on it.  If you're really that interested in a source browse any of the FFXI boards.

Wow, and update from a buddy that makes this even worse!

This affects two things: your job level and your skill level.  After 8 hours of play on a job you start to see dimished returns until it eventually goes to 0.  At that point you cannot gain experience points or skill points on that job until the week resets.

You can change jobs but that does not reset the experience returns.  That means you can reset your job and gain skill levels but you only get 8 hours of experience a week for all jobs combined.

Luckily, SE is receiving pretty universal flack from this everywhere, even internally, so they're aware of it and hopefully they will come up with a better solution.

We must boycott this game!

This is a bad idea. When ps3 players get to play it'll be difficult to xp because the PC players will be rocking the endgame.

That actually shouldn't matter in the least and doesn't even have anything to do with the topic...

wow, i have my avatar changed to a character from this game for the last year. Hyping it, getting people to preorder it cause it's gonna be great. I played FF XI for 5 yrs because i like MMO's and now i read this?    F**k that!  This idea is pathetic!  No Buy from me.
