"I'll pay $50 for one!"
"Shut up Pip!"
$150 for a skeleton key to the PS3 is asking a lot for anyone who isn't dedicated to stealing as much software as humanly possible, but there are plenty of people who will always want to play more than they are willing or able to afford.
That being said, a utility that allows users to rip BD games to HDD actually has legitmate uses (games loading entirely off of HDD should load and run faster), but ANYBODY who actually pays decent money for this isn't doing so for the convenience factor.
Beyond the convenience, $150 is more or less paying for the ability to pirate/bootleg games and frankly, no one in their right mind should pay for bootlegs, which should be distributed for free, or failing that, stolen. Turnabout is fair play.
Frankly, any support provided by the "original" hardware hack (which in all likelihood was simply taken from a development kit) in the form of firmware updates, can and should be disseminated for free as well.

you cant play online with the psp hack. so it would actually help sony.

Yeah, that is a pretty bad analogy.
The PSP pretty much restricts WiFi/network use to PSN store access as virtually all online play is AdHoc mode only, meaning the only time most will ever connect to a network is when they are downloading something from the PSN store or using the *barely* functional web browser.
The PS3 hack requires a hardware dongle for the time being. Restriction One that will keep everyone who owns a PS3 from using one.
Restriction Two: any future firmware updates from SCE will likely detect hack use resulting in XBL-like console bans from PSN. Meaning, anyone that wants to use the hack will have to stay offline on that console from that point on. So, buy a second PS3 if you play online.
Caveat Two on a related note would be that future games may also have updates or require updates (like RDR) to the console firmware, which could also ban a console or disable the hardware dongle or ROMs loaded on the internal HDD. Meaning, future games that aren't compatible with firmware 3.41 won't run on a hacked console (running 3.41 as future updates will undoubtedly be incompatible with the hack) regardless of whether it's reading from a BD or HDD.

true. i dont see the hack being succesful. a main reason the psp is hit by piracy is because its big games dont necessarily use online. my friends psp got fried because he did a firmware update.

All I can say is, it's lucky Sony is selling their PS3 for a profit now, because the freeloaders who will start buying PS3 and only playing pirated games are at least allowing someone to profit. Though I suppose a lot of them will buy used PS3s.
I guess this will somewhat accelerate development of PS4.
