you cant play online with the psp hack. so it would actually help sony. |
Yeah, that is a pretty bad analogy.
The PSP pretty much restricts WiFi/network use to PSN store access as virtually all online play is AdHoc mode only, meaning the only time most will ever connect to a network is when they are downloading something from the PSN store or using the *barely* functional web browser.
The PS3 hack requires a hardware dongle for the time being. Restriction One that will keep everyone who owns a PS3 from using one.
Restriction Two: any future firmware updates from SCE will likely detect hack use resulting in XBL-like console bans from PSN. Meaning, anyone that wants to use the hack will have to stay offline on that console from that point on. So, buy a second PS3 if you play online.
Caveat Two on a related note would be that future games may also have updates or require updates (like RDR) to the console firmware, which could also ban a console or disable the hardware dongle or ROMs loaded on the internal HDD. Meaning, future games that aren't compatible with firmware 3.41 won't run on a hacked console (running 3.41 as future updates will undoubtedly be incompatible with the hack) regardless of whether it's reading from a BD or HDD.
