Forums - Sony - Who thinks Rockstar's "Agent" is a cover for GTA5?

I doubt it. Of course, Take Two is run by a bunch of idiots, who don't know how to make money if they wanted to, so it could be.

Wasn't this Rock* PS3 exclusive thing down to LA Noire?

Sony pumped a LOT of money into LA Noire, fully funding it I think? But after a while of pretty much nothing coming from the game they did a deal for a new exclusive game in exchange for the seemingly dead LA Noire. This game turned out to be Agent, and thus LA Noire went Multiplat.

Correct me if I'm wrong. It has nothing to do with GTA4. GTA4 was made Multiplat simply because of how the PS3 was doing compared to the 360 in it's early years.

Please. If you can give me links to prove it was to do with GTA4, feel free.

Actually a proposition was brought to Sony for exclusivity, but Sony didn't respond fast enough. Microsoft jumped at the opportunity. Had Sony made accepted, GTA IV would have been PS3 exclusive along with MGS4, though in GTA IV's case, it would have gone multi a year later (ala PS2 - Xbox).

Links?

Nope. It was a common story in late '06 though.

Edit: Scratch that: http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/news211106gta

Sony really did suck early into this gen.

Actually, it'll probably be PS3/360/PC. I'm not sure who you're speaking to though, who said it would be PS3 exclusive?

I actually said it might be one of those exclusive for a year things like Mass Effect 2.

I think Agent is code name for Agent.  Although, I would love to hear some new GTA news.  Nothing else would make my day more, but come on, this is stretching it.

agent is codenamed for agent,i would think when its a codename the real name would be something else

how is it stretching it though cause nobody is saying that it will be gta for sure just discussing the arrangements

Okay, my bad.  Agent isn't a codename for Agent.

I just think it's stretching it by saying stuff like Agent has a G and a T and an A in it.  And the other two letters are EN.  Ah ha! GTA V in England one year PS3 exclusive.

Don't get me wrong.  It's all interesting as GTA is my favorite franchise, but I don't think Agent is GTA.  I think Agent is Agent.

LOL...it would take ALOT of money from Sony to get GTA as a timed exclusive...especially given the bar set by M$.  I'd have to say maybe $150 to $200 million to make it worthwile ot Take Two...so no, probably not.

why would sony have to pay money????????????????????

the bar set by MS was because GTA4 was exlcusive to PS3 and MS wanted to make it multi-plat

SONY released GTA4 exlcusivity and they could have easily exchanged it for 360 and PS3 becoming cheap will get GTA5 big sales on PS3 too

So you think they could make up the sales they would lose on taking GTA exclusive to PS3...can I have some of what you are smoking?

rockstar actually made a loss off GTA4 cause they were making an engine for it.

Wasn't there some sort of deal between Rockstar and Sony? Let GTAIV go multiplatform in exchange for a new IP? Or something along those lines?

I don't get this.  Why would Rockstar need Sony's permission to do anthing with their IP?

cause sony had a gta4 exlcusivity agreement and they exchanged it for 3 exlcusives with sony, they could be any ip's or exlcusives but sony will have control over to how good they are and qill look over the quality of it

yes it was at first but this wasn't even in the gta exclusivity trade off deal,LA noire was in development in like 2004 or 2005

sony pumped alot of money but were dissapointed and withdrew.

and you are a bit wrong

GTA4 had an exclusivity deal of PS3 like all other GTA games in the past on PS2.we don't know timed or fully exclusive but when PS3 was released at a high priced and sales were low. the deal was done of exchanging.

the links go way back.i have banged my head over and over again from some time now but the whole deal exchange is old now and links don't come that easy

i never said they could make up sales, just that the sales will be pretty damn good

userbase at GTA4's launch

ps3 userbase - 11.5m

360 userbase - 17.9

it could very well cover it as PS3 itself is much more than the orginal userbase of both combined.

and it will be over 50m next fall, thats pretty good total and PS3 will most likely be $199 and that is pretty cheap and super mass marketable price which should more than be enough to make a big userbase to sell GTA NEXT on

That link CGI posted says otherwise.  It doesn't seem like there was any kind of deal that was broken.  Seems Sony wasn't willing to pay for exclusivity.  Where are you  getting your information from?

"SCEA veep Jack Tretton has implied that Sony passed on the opportunity to bind Grand Theft Auto exclusively to PlayStation for another generation.

"It's just a question of how deep into your pockets do you have to reach to secure [exclusivity]?" he said, speaking to Newsweek.

"Desperation breeds deep pockets. Confidence breeds the opposite. When it makes sense, you do the deal. When it doesn't, you pass."

Tretton was responding to allegations in Newsweek that Sony lost out on exclusivity for Take-Two's GTA IV and Ubisoft's Assassin's Creed while Ken Kutaragi "dragged his feet" - something Tretton declined to address directly.
