The wii is down severily compared to last year..

and it's $199 this year compared to $249 last year, and it has a new color, AND it's bundled with wii sports resort..

*raises eyebrow*

2009: 8,945,173

2010: 8,727,181

If -220,000 YoY is down "severily" (severely), then we have very different definitions of the word. Now, if you were talking about compared to 2008, then you might be on to something.

you took that from the marketshare story right?

That number includes this past christmas.

down about 700k. And the next few months is when last year's big games came out. NSMBWii, Wiifit , price drop. That gap is only going to get much larger

The Wii is in the same boat as the PS3. They will be sinking together. Good job, Sony. Good job.

i think so too.

But honestly, what should Sony have done?

i see wii being 1st or 2nd this holiday. no matter what happens its going to be very close.

Being in 3rd place never felt so good

They shouldn't have released the Slim last year, but instead this year. That way their numbers would be way up this year from September onwards instead of down.

They should have also followed wiis pricing strategy by not dropping price til last christmas.

They will be #1 this holiday. But the gaps are going to shrink substantially.

and why is that?  ps3 is very close to the wii right know, ofcourse the wii is going to get a bigger holiday boost. but i still see the holiday being tight.

Good point. That would have saved them a lot of money. They could have used it to save the PSP from its new record low. You know, they are so desperate now that they seriously talk about selling to kids.

Sony sold out. Following in the 6-foot deep footsteps of Nintendo. I wag my finger at them.

wii for some reason is always much higher than you would expect during the holidays. It has reached that kind of level where if you don't know what to get someone, you can get them a wii. It's become a mainstream product whereas 360 and ps3 are still primarily bought for family or oneself.

That might change with kinect, but I don't see it pushing many consoles as like, gifts. Besides, kinect comes out in November, and that's a little late in my opinion.

Wii always gets a huge boost during the Holiday's and the Wii isn't even close to being dead...No games = no sales and S.M.G.2 is the only big game that came out this year...trust me later this year Wii will be #1 by a longshot again this Holiday.

Kirby's Epic Yarn__Donkey Kong Country Returns__Wii Party__Just Dance 2__New Carnival Games...Could do something__Udraw...also could do something...

What people also seem to forget is the fact that Wii games sell for a LONG time and could also still help the Wii sell in Holiday 2010 even though it won't be to the same degree. Games that could help the Wii sell this Holiday also include:

Wii Sports__Wii Play__Mario Kart Wii__Animal Crossing City Folk...could do something in Japan__Wii Sports Resort__Wii Fit Plus__Just Dance(1)__New Super Mario Bros. Wii__Super Mario Galaxy 2.

You can't tell me that out of the 2 Million plus people that bought Mario Kart Wii in November and December 2009 had no effect on Wii sales for the Holiday 2009.
