Forums - Sony - Killzone 3 goes casual

I'll take a server list any day over matchmaking. I'm interested to see how they're gonna work this out. Custom games without server lists?

KZ2 didn't use matchmaking? Damn, I've got to get it NOW! Matchmaking is one of the reasons I don't like multiplayer games on consoles. And that's something I avoid on PC, too.

Troll? O.o

What exactly don't you like about server lists and custom games? The beauty of those two features are that you have choice.

No, I'm not a troll. I love dedicated servers because just like you said, it gives me choice. And it gives me more players. And because of the lack of those two things, I strongly dislike matchmaking.

Yeah, I got thrown off by your initial sarcasm orz. Sorry bout that.

They could be there, but you'll probably have to populate the game yourself, like in Uncharted 2.

Personally, I like the change. I hate hate hate server lists. They make the online experience feel severely disjointed, and matchmaking is so standard now, it's just laziness not to include it. Ideally, the game would have both, but I'd much rather have matchmaking than those god awful server lists.

Can you explain what you mean by saying "... the online experience feel severely disjointed"?

Can you elaborate more on specific features of server lists that make you hate them?

I'll try

All the server list does, IMO, is add another layer of confusion. All the way through, I've been treated to a sleek interface, in which it is clear what to do. Then suddenly, this giant mess comes up, with information I don't need or care about, and I suddenly have to make a conscious decision about which server to join. Do I join the 28 player one, or the 30 player one? What, exactly, is the difference between those two? Why is that server name in Japanese?

I would much rather go through a matchmaking service which knows what it's doing and puts me in a suitable match.

You can filter the server list in the options menu. Isn't it great that you can see that a sever has a Japanese name? That way you know that you're going to be playing with JP players. As for 28 and 30 example, I say a better example is a 15 out of 32 server vs 28 out of 32 server.

If you really hate making decisions, why not just randomly select a match from the list? Didn't Killzone 2 in fact, let you essentially do match making? You pressed Triangle I believe and depending on your filter settings, they put you in any avaiable game.

I think we need to start a petition on their website.

Removing server lists completely will be the biggest mistake they'll ever make.

Rockstar: Announce Bully 2 already and make gamers proud!

Kojima: Come out with Project S already!

Server lists are being removed for automatic matchmaking. This does not mean dedicated servers are being removed, just the ability to choose which specific one you join.

Whatever. I still lose something, and that something is choice. The best solution would be dedicated server combined with both a server list and matchmaking. It would be fine even if matchmaking was the default option as long as I could still choose my server.

It wasn't sarcasm, even if it sounded like it. I've been looking into getting Killzone 2 since its release but now I'm much more interested in the game.

i hate matchmaking, unless you are in the US it won't work as good and you have to wait for 10 m plus just play a single game.

Hey, I probably buy Killzone 3 providing it doesn't suffer the control issues Killzone 2 did for the first few months of release until they patched a fix.

I doubt they'll leave a massive deadzone on the controls again though.

edit:

Just incase no one realised this, but no server browser means there probably will not be custom matches like in Killzone 2 where you can turn off certain classes or weapons, adjust points needed for wins, how long objective modes last etc.

Automatic matchmaking would never work with custom games like that.

Server lists allow for us non US gamers to actually PLAY the game and not being stuck in "Finding nearest game" screen for 10 minutes, until finally mr matchmaking dude decides that i don't live in the US and then goes into "finding ANY game" and even after that people already left the game so it will restart itself again and thats another 10 minutes just waiting.

also how "Confusing" can it get for choosing from a menu? can't you read?

Every is doing this.Try to appeal to the causal players and keep the hardcore elements there and keep them happy. No real surprise.

This sucks... the server lists are one of the few things that I liked in KZ2 multiplayer.

I agree with severance. is it really hard to just choose from a menu? won't that be more conveniant?

Okay, the real question is, Why the fuk can't they just do both? Taylor matchmaking for specific gametypes like Bodycount for example, and leave everything else to the Open Lobby System they had in Killzone 2.
