Forums - Sony - PS3 Has Been Finally Hacked to Run Games Without Discs (VIDEO)

The dongle costs 170 bucks! That's pretty steep, especially if Sony finds away to counter this either with a FW or online banning like the 360. Also, not to mention that as it is now, you still need the disc so you will need a friend to lend you the game or gamefly it so u can back it up (unless they make it so u can download the iso [which will be extremely big] and put it in your PS3's HDD)

Sony cant take USB ports out of the PS3 models, or else it would pretty much be a whole new system. Controllers, microphones and all other acesories charge in the USB. you wouldnt be able to transfer data into external drives ect. Only way they can combat this is by firmware updates, or maybe new chips in the ps3.from all the videos we've seen so far, it looks like its all been done on PHAT ps3 consoles. Maybe it doesnt work on the slims?

And ey wont, all ey have to do on future ps3 models is to eliminate boot from usb, thats it, hardware revision like on psp.

Second it only runs on 3.41, ey can release new FW and anyone with old one FW ll not be able to use it, so only 3.41 users.

Third , most likely it wont work on future games, ey can make game code incompatible with device manager or usb jingle so u wont be able to make back up of it. Remember u need original to make copy, downloading from torrent doesnt work.

Off-Topic: lol @ your signature xD "Why do they call it the xbox 360? Because when you see it, you'll turn 360 degrees and walk away"

Did you know that if you're looking at a 360 and turn 360 degrees, you'll end up looking at the 360 again? xD Or maybe it's supposed to be a joke? :P

I think the joke is that yes, you'll be looking at the 360 again, but you'll still walk away (backwards, I suppose).

Someone even made an animation of that I think.

Oh, I see :O I've never seen that animation O_o

A banner stolen from some site xD

Actually the latest modded firmware (Ixtreme LT) currently has no vulnerabilities (for the time being) that can allow M$ to detect if you have a modded console, or are playing a "backed-up" 360 game while on Xbox Live.

Why does everyone think a firmware update will stop the mod from working?  The wii has had a bunch of firmware updates and they get cracked within weeks.

If DigitalFoundry is right, that's actually not a hack. Someone stole/got a program (or code, have no idea) to run the PS3 as a debug unit, the same way devs have. The HDD backup is available for developers, plus they can run unsigned code. That's (probably) how these guys are running games from the HDD.

A simple software update plus new codes for developers would effectively cut out this "hack". new games would have this update and Sony forces some mandatory updates for online gaming, which would remove that code from these guys.

Feel free to correct me, as I understand just a little of this stuff.
