Forums - Sales - Japan sales figures are up...

Well I guess there's no way the Wii have sold 20million units by the end of the year if it keeps selling like that, it needs more than one million units sold per week to reach that goal and this week's numbers are on the 600-700thousand levels.

Unless it is true that nintendo has a lot of wiis stockpiled for this holiday season there will be no 20million wiis sold, but for the end of the fiscal year it will reach that goal easily.

Again, Prologue releases on the 13th and is available on PSN. We won't know how well it's doing unless Sony release PSN download numbers...

Perhaps I am the odd man out in this regard but I look at this as an ongoing thing where I am constantly updating predictions, projections, etc.. and trying to figure out what I am getting right and what I am getting wrong.

You're not alone. Some people seem to take pride in sticking to their predictions, I don't. My predictions are current expectations based on the information I know. If I have to change them every day (in the worst case), so be it.

Predictions are simply tools to manage our expectations about real world events.

Again, any downloadable games are not going to help increase PS3 hardware anything more than 1%.... If you are wanting to see how well prologue does as a game, then yes you need downloads too (hopefully we will get some kind of statement with a percentage so we can make an educated guess), but when using GT5p as an argument for increased hardware, downloads hardly come into it at all.

@TWRo0

yes now I am seeing people hyping up how prologue will do very well

all I will say is that people will be shockingly disappointed at sales cus Japan is one of the leading in wifi penetration so they are sure to have online on their ps3's

"How do you think that Sony funded the pricedrop/new Sku then? Just focus on the topic of this thread."

They removed BC, some ports, had the 65nm cell. I doubt that they loose more money now than at the beginning. If you use 3 billion dollars you could give away 6 million 500$ PS3s for free. (3*10^9 / 500 = 0.6 * 10^7 = 6 million) We only have 8million PS3 till years end so I don't think that they needed that much money to fund the pricedrop.
Lets see some people said they lost 250$ on each machine, I doubt that this is still the case:

that would mean for 8 million PS3s sold they would loose 2 billion dollars. That's less than twice what MS had to pay for RRoD costs this year alone. And its less than what their other company parts (TVs, cameras...) made. Besides they sell millions(at the moment >1.5m) of PS3 games each week worldwide that should mitigate some of the losses.

Yes their gaming business is still loosing money but sony is bigger than Microsoft and it increased overall profit this year. They are hardly broke.
