Forums - Sales - Japan sales figures are up...

Even with tuning, "the margin of error could put one above the other", at least that's what a mod told me a couple of weeks ago when I said PS3 beat 360

I think we're saying the same thing: I'm stating that the 360 is ahead right now, but minor tweaks could put the PS3 ahead instead, because the totals are so close. That's precisely what happened last week, when the PS3 was initially selling better than the 360 on a weekly basis.

I know I keep bringing this up, but my oh my load of people on this site are eating crow

Ps3 was meant to do disastrously bad this holiday season according to 50% of this board

I think Sony surprised everyone with their unprecedented price cuts. I was predicting 6.5 million by the end of the year before they happened, and I still think it would have been about right without the price cuts.

Once again no one new Sony would float $3 billion of its own stock to fund multiple pricedrops of different SKU's, and include a lesser SKU on the market.  I'm sure if we had known this would happen then we would predicted sales a little higher.  Facts of the matter bro.  People that predicted PS3 to do this without insight into that were probably making fanboyish predictions, as if you went strictly off the data and current trends and didn't have all that stuff happen, then sales would have been as it was said to be.

oh come on zucas get real. Sony lost 900 millions on ps3 and yet increased their total profit thanks to great electronics numbers. Nobody did float anything to fund a pricedrop. But the 360 managed to stay in the lead by acouple thousand units again LOL I am curious how long this neck-to neck race continues. I think next year ms will need to become unprofitable again to stay in competition.

@ Zucas and @ darthdevidem

Okay, let's not fight here. Zucas, we get how Sony floated the stock, and Darth, the PS3 is doing fine, no need to focus on what people said it would do.

Whew! Now that's done, let's all hold hands and be friends and rejoice that every next-gen console is doing well in one territory or another.

@ Kyros

How do you think that Sony funded the pricedrop/new Sku then? Just focus on the topic of this thread.

MS has dropped the price $50 in 25 months. It's likely that the earliest we'll see another 360 price drop is around month 30.

By then, hardware costs should be low enough to maintain profitability. I don't think MS will lose money on the 360 again. By then, ATI might even have 65nm GPUs in the pipeline.

Well to be honest somewhere near 100% of members are "eating crow" right now for one reason or another.  Be it the PS3 holiday performance, "Wii is a Fad", and a wide range of other issues.  The fact is that any time you have a bunch of people all making different predictions you are going to have a situation wher most of those predictions are wrong.

The key is that rather than throwing a fit about your mistakes, you highlight what you got wrong and try to take it into account in the future.  I can't find the thread right now, but earlier this week I was already pointing out my mistakes in predicting the PS3 this holiday and stating the need for an updated projection.

Perhaps I am the odd man out in this regard but I look at this as an ongoing thing where I am constantly updating predictions, projections, etc.. and trying to figure out what I am getting right and what I am getting wrong.
