Forums - Microsoft - I wonder if this is how Nintendo fans felt between 2007-2009

I'm sure some of you are feeling the same way I am, happy that some great franchise games are coming out, but feeling somewhat neglected that a lot of Microsoft's attention is now focused on casual gamers.  I have no doubts that Dance Central is going to be one of the "it" games this holiday season and that the 360 will have amazing sales to brag about, but I also wonder if it will feel like a hollow victory for the 360's loyal following with a lot of the "So what if you have more core games, look at our sales!" that Nintendo fans had to resort to.

As both Sony and Nintendo have learned from experience the casual audience that Microsoft is chasing is a fickle one and gaining them for your current console is no guarantee that they will be there for the next.  As I look at Sony I originally thought that they didn't know what they were doing by remaining mainly focused on there core audience, there are so many potential casual sales up for grabs, but having experienced the loss of many such gamers to the Wii I now think that it's better to make sure your loyal following knows that they come first.

Anyways it's not all doom and gloom for us fans of the system, I recently typed out a list of what's coming between now and Christmas and was surprised at the amount of quality core games.  It's also not too late for someone from Microsoft to pay attention to boards like this one and make sure that any such feelings of neglect are addressed.

I dont know why you would feel that way, There are tons of good Core games coming out for the 360. But i guess if anyone feels this Way on any console then your on the wrong console.

Atto Suggests...:

You'll feel better once Reach releases -pats you on the back-

I live for the burn...and the sting of pleasure...
I live for the sword, the steel, and the gun...

- Wasteland - The Mission.

As far as MS goes the only thing they really made game wise was halo/fable/forza and they are all still being made. The rest is all multiplatform third party games which is what the xbox lived on since the beginning.  Its not a huge deal. But if you really hate things maybe you should look for another platform to game on.

Time for hype

Why would ninty fans feel that way?  They have all the great 1st party games they want and the system prints money.  Only a handful of insecure fans would buy into that, everyone else is strutting around laughing at the haters.

Don't want to stray too far off topic, but that doesn't help anyone here.

On Topic:

To me the problem here is that MS is putting a lot of their internal effort into Kinect right now because they want it to be a success. Doing this however puts other things on hold since Microsoft has nowhere near the amount of internal studios that SONY and Nintendo have. Those companies can develop casual games and core games simultaneously and at a rapid rate.

Until MS decides to buy studios instead of letting them go it probably isn't going to change. 3rd Party exclusivity going the way of the dinosaur highlights this problem even more.

Doesn't mean the games they do manage to pump out are bad, but don't expect Nintendo and/or SONY sized lists that spread across various genres.

Hopefully the new LionHead title that they will be working on around the holidays will be a true core title. Well, it better be since they are putting the Fable series on hold! >.<

iPhone = Great gaming device. Don't agree? Who cares, because you're wrong.

Currently playing:

Final Fantasy VI (iOS), Final Fantasy: Record Keeper (iOS) & Dragon Quest V (iOS)

Got a retro room? Post it here!

I'm not sure why you feel that way either. The Xbox 360 will still get the next Mass Effect, Halo Reach, Fallout: New Vegas, Fable 3, Gears of War 3, etc. I feel like Microsoft is trying to expand its market, but they would never neglect their core fanbase. I don't believe microsoft is that stupid, they know what they are doing. 343 Industries is working on the Next Halo, Microsoft has already made deals with Crytek for an exclusive game, Metal Gear Solid Rising is still coming, and I'm sure many more games have yet to be annouced.

Basically what I'm saying is, this time period of the 360 lifecycle is nothing like the gloomy years on the Wii. I only had a Wii back then and I remember those years very well. They ultimately led me to get a 360. Just enjoy the games you have now, and wait for more to come. They haven't let me down yet.

i get what you are saying but i don't think the current MS situation is any where near as bad as it was to be a nintendo fan the past couple of years.  even with the kinect push the 360 and ps3 have like 95% the same library so you are guarantee tons of great games for the rest of the gen which i can't say for the wii.

...but maybe i'm just bitter.  nintendo feels like a bad ex to me now, can't stand anything about them.

Real gamers are playing games, and have no time to worry about what a company is or is not doing.

As the official biggest Nintendo fan of our forums, I have no idea what you're talking about.  I've been drowning in good games of pretty much every genre, and enjoying a greater diversity of games than ever before in my life.  I even got my favorite 2-D Mario, my favorite 3-D Mario, my favorite 3-D Zelda, my favorite Smash Bros., and my favorite Mario Kart on one system, which can also play every console Mario, Zelda,  Metroid, Smash Bros., and Mario Kart game ever made.  And I've enjoyed more 3rd party games on the Wii than anything since the SNES.  And don't even get me started on the new genres, new ways to play, new ways to exercise, and BIT.TRIP BEAT.

You shouldn't stay so hung up on the "casualz" argument.  It will only hurt you in the end, because the tidal waves of shovelware are turning on the HD twins now.  You should be happy that you're getting 4 Halo games on one console, AND getting wacky dance games and exercise games.  Welcome to WiiWorld.  It's the best of everything.
