Ok fine, yeah I think the PS3 will last longer in the market than the 360, look at Sonys history even when the PS2 was number 1 it was still selling PS1s, the PS3 while not number 1 is still more succesful in third place (and lets face it its only barely in third) than any other third place console, its rivaling and will probably beat a lot of second places from the past (I believe its already beat last gens 2nd and 3rd places).
360s big selling is mainly in the US and UK and parts of Europe, but Sony sell well in a lot of 'forgotten' markets that don't get discussed much when these places move on to new hardware, this is where the PS1 was selling during the PS2s prime, it is where the PS2 is selling now and it will be where the PS3 sells when there is a PS4 being enjoyed by the US/UK/Japan etc.

You do realize they were selling these past gen PS systems because they were significantly first place in their respective generations right? As such they were still very profitable for Sony even after the generation ended.
Even close losers (by market share) such as teh Genesis, didn't hang on after the generation ended, so what makes you think Sony or MS will keep the PS360 around once the next gen starts?
3rd parties only build software for consoles that have the userbase to support it. NES, SNES, PS1, PS2 all had that userbase that allowed them to stay in the market years after the next gen started because they were the clear winners of their gen. PS360 are not even close to this point. However, I will give you that they BOTH will have sold many more units than previous 'losers' did. Though I don't think that will matter when neXtBox and PS4 launches in 2012.
