The Xbox 360s sales since the revision came out aren't following a typical short term sales curve. There has to be something pushing the Xbox 360 to sell more, especially as the supply of discounted Xbox 360s have seemed to have diminished rapidly. Even with people buying the console because RROD/reliability concerns have been diminished or because of the addition of Wifi or the reduction in noise doesn't quite produce a satisfactory explanation, there could be more to it.
Two points of interest:
- The Xbox 360 had a 30k boost from what I recall after E3 2009 from Natal hype as it was called at the time.
- Halo: Reach is ahead of Modern Warfare 2 in pre-order sales at the same number of weeks before release.
Since the Xbox 360 is having quite a lot of promotion of Kinect with physical demonstrations everywhere, perhaps people are already buying Xbox 360s because they have already become enthused with Kinect. These are people whom are interested in both the core game library and obviously Kinect for whatever reason they want it for. We've already seen people buying 360s based off some media hype and a few trailers so why not based off a physical demonstration?
People have assumed that Halo: Reach wouldn't sell consoles. However this is countered by the fact that all three previous Halo releases pushed hardware significantly, Halo 2 inclusive. Modern Warfare 2 also managed to move consoles inspite of the fact that it was merely a sequel to a multiplatform game and it was the 5th Call of Duty released on the Xbox 360 this generation. However since Halo: Reach is exclusive, it ought to have more system selling potential than a multiplatform title as it has the potential to draw owners of other consoles to buy an Xbox 360 as its not available anywhere else. Because Halo: Reach is a multiplayer intensive release, the greatest point of interest is at release when a large number of people are playing the game. So anyone who missed Halo 3 whom is interested in multiplayer wouldn't be inclined to pick up a 360 for that title once people moved on to other games.
Tease.
