@ Squilliam

I think that's a pretty good point about who may be buying the new 360s.

another good point is who is buying new 360s and no games

Personally I suspect the second hand market has a lot to answer for. If you are buying a console this late in the generation and it is not bundled then the sales pitch almost inevitable slides to the second hand market. Bascially it is very easy to buy lots of titles but have none show up in software sales.

I agree with this too. If I were to buy a PS3 from this point on, I would definitely be buying used games.

I LOVE paying for Xbox Live! I also love that my love for it pisses off so many people.

very good xbox 360 number.

Looks like the 360 arcade boost was pretty minimal.

What i find really funny is that it's only the Wii fanbase who seem say the "doomed" word these days.

And can you please list me the sales of the top 3 DK games please? Then show me the top 3 sales of Mario games, before NSMBWii?

People obviously don't need to say "doomed" to insinuate it is.

When someone predicts the 360 and possibly the PS3 will outsell it this holiday, that's essentially what they're saying. Since we know 360 and PS3 sales will be low (compared to Wii last holiday), for this to happen, the Wii would have to be down like, 40%, at least.

Doomed is a huge over-exaggeration. And even then... How many people have predicted both PS3 and 360 will outsell the Wii this holiday? "Doomed" is a phrase here that is used mainly by the Wii fanbase these days.

The Wii is looking shabby when compared to what we are used to from the Wii. This is a fact. And the Wii being down ~40% sounds a bit much... But it is definitely possible. They (currently) don't have a pricecut. And no single title bigger than NSMB Wii. Never mind NSMBWii, Wii Sports Resort, Tales of Graces and Wii Fit Plus combined.

Add in the possibility of Kinect and/or Move taking off and thus stealing some of the Wii's sales... You have the possibility of Wii being down a lot.

we quote what everyone said last year.

And you're actually saying graces was big and moved hardware? seriously?

I'm saying an exclusive Tales game in Japan launching in December is expected to be a big hardware mover, yes.

I can't remember the actual numbers though so... Did it increase sales?

No, apparently FF13 "sabotaged" TOG sales. I have heard this said many times on here.

All hail the KING, Andrespetmonkey

graces performed poorly compared to other tales games.

It opened at 140k, is at 220k now.

Wii jumped from 104k week ending dec 06 - to 138k week ending dec 13, but honestly, I think it was more the seasonal boost and nsmbwii which was released the 5th.

And as Darth said, it was drowned by ff13

you agree on everything that makes sales of 360 seem to get new owners

if used games were then sales of old games would just drop and used game sales would increase

with amount of HW increase 360S has brought there should be some increase in SW but it has barely changed

I'll do the honours:

1
Super Mario Bros. (NES)
Nintendo
29.52 6.81 3.91 40.24
2
New Super Mario Bros. (DS)
Nintendo
8.50 6.08 7.75 22.33
3
Super Mario World (SNES)
Nintendo
12.97 3.55 4.09 20.61
4
Super Mario Land (GB)
Nintendo
10.99 4.19 2.96 18.14

Included 4 cus Super Mario Bros was bundled a lot, so just included one extra.

________

1
Donkey Kong Country (SNES)
Nintendo
4.43 3.00 1.87 9.30
2
Donkey Kong 64 (N64)
Rare
3.31 1.10 0.86 5.27
3
Donkey Kong Country 2: Diddy's Kong Quest (SNES)
Nintendo
2.13 2.21 0.81 5.15

_______

I love Donkey Kong, but its really not gonna be a NSMB Wii

In case anyone missed it: (Mario Kart before DS, Wii)

1
Mario Kart 64 (N64)
Nintendo
5.52 2.24 2.11 9.87
2
Super Mario Kart (SNES)
Nintendo
3.59 3.82 1.35 8.76
3
Mario Kart: Double Dash!! (GC)
Nintendo
4.14 0.89 1.93 6.96

See how that... doesn't work? And at this point, NSMB Wii outselling Mario Kart Wii is not going to be an easy task.

I'm not saying DKC will outsell Mario Kart or NSMB Wii (surely it'll be under both by a fair margin), but I will say those comparisons are useless. DKC1 is the only non-sequel 2D Donkey Kong. We really just don't have much data on what kind of impact this game will have.

@Carl2291: "Doomed" is just a word used to group up all the people who think the console will continue a steep decline. E.g. "To all those who think the Wii is doomed," basically means "To all those thinking the Wii will be down 30-40% this holiday."

You're putting too much weight into what is just... a word.

Besides, what do you think doomed means? Down 50%? 60%? When is it not a "huge over-exaggeration"? I'm pretty sure calling an HD console "doomed" at some points meant it'd be stuck in 3rd place, and that's a hell of a lot less extreme than the expectations of Wii sales this holiday.

The fact is that the HD consoles are at their peak now (or close to it). Wii is not. People seem to be forgetting that the HD consoles will eventually go through massive declines as well, they are not invincible. As Wii has shown, no console is invinsible to eventual decline. The redesigns have prolonged this decline, but they can only do so for so long. As The Source I believe said, Wii having the highest, most rapid peak, leads to it having the most rapid decline as well.

On the topic of DKC, it won't be as influencial as NSMB Wii in lifting hardware, but it will certainly make an impact. Plus Goldeneye, Epic Mickey, Wii Party, and Kirby can pick up that extra slack. Nintendo basically has it in the bag against Sony. If PS3 can't even outsell Wii at its low point in the slow summer months with no sinigifanct releases, then it certainly won't during the holidays, which is a strong time for Nintendo hardware. As for 360, I think people are puting way too much hope in Kinect. The hardware may be neat, but it doesn't appear to have any decent games worth buying it for. Halo Reach will do more than Kinect. At the end of the day, people buy hardware for the GAMES. Nintendo's lineup this holiday looks to be the strongest, so I think it'll get the most sales.
