I've been listening to heavy metal since 1985. It's the only modern music I like apart from movie and game soundtracks.

I figured it was time to create a thread dedicated to the genre with the most dedicated fans. After 40 years it is still going strong. No other genre can say that.

I only know a couple of bands from Finland Lordi and Poets of the Fall. I know Poets isn't really heavy but their music is still great. I haven't heard of Sonata Arctica but I will check them out in the morning when I can listen to music on my stereo and not just my cheap laptop speakers.

So you don't know none of Children of Bodom, HIM, Nightwish, Hanoi Rocks, Apocalyptica, Sentenced, Finntroll, Stratovarius or Amorphis?

My favorite band also. I really can't name bad song from them. Other my favorites are Nightwish, Stratovarius, Amorphis, Disturbed, Nocturnal Rites, Sentenced and within temptations. Great thread.

Yeah, I'm mostly into the operatic type stuff too, as well as some power metal and melodic death. Basically if it is heavy on the melodic stuff, there's a good chance I'll be into it. Epica is one of my favorite bands. Simmone's voice is just amazing, and she's not a bad looker either :)

If you haven't heard of them, perhaps also check out Sirenia, Edenbridge, Leaves' Eyes, and Skyward, all operatic/melodic style metal bands with female singers in the same vein as Epica.
