I see it all over the forums & comment boards on the internet.

This Wii thing has got people besides themselves. They are rooting for this system NOT to be a success & hoping it will ultimately fail. It comes out in overt and covert ways but there is a current of thought that seems irked that Wii even exists.

What do you think causes this?

Actually I sort of know the reasons but I just want to get you all's take on the chafing that Wii brings to some people.

Fanboyism.

They may say its because games will not be as powerful or advancement in AI will come to a screaching halt. All it really boils down to is that they like Sony or MS and don't like Nintendo because it is kiddy or whatever and so on and so on.

Sony doesn't want to lose that #1 spot that they have sat on the last 2 gens. That's why sony fans tend to show a lot more hate towards the wii than 360 fans do.

In a word "Fanboys" ... It is actually worse that just being a fanboy flame war though

Back in the day it was generally accepted that Sega fanboys were typically the most laid back largely because they stoped focusing on wide spread success largely because Sega could never become successful; in a lot of ways Nintendo fanboys have followed in the same path after the N64 and Gamecube were not all that popular.

Sony fans are not used to things not going their way and every time something good happens for the Wii (or something bad happens to the PS3 or PSP) they throw a tantrum.

Trust me, on Thursday (after the Japaneese weekly and American Monthly charts are published) you will see every sony fan do everything in their power to bash the Wii ...

Because the Wii is going the wrong way for the games I like. PS2 games will do fine for my low budget, low graphics games. I dont need another console.

Because most of the Sony fan(atics) are too arrogant to admit that Wii offers a gameplay much more interesting than PS3, and it reflects on its sells. Besides, Nintendo Wii is much more accessible to the consumers because of its price and games, being them 'casual' (Wii Sports, WarioWare, Wii Play) or good and old franchises (Zelda, Sonic, Paper Mario).

 The only thing that limits Wii games is the developers themselves, the Wii is more capable than an Xbox

This behavior happens all the time.  People often get caught up with their favorite sports teams, car companies, and even the choice of a Mac versus PC.  Many like to think that whatever they own/support is the best.  It's only the fanatical few who cannot accept when something else is equally as good or better than theirs who make the whole group look bad.  And when you're in a venue like this, you're bound to find a few of those 'nut jobs'.

I respect Kwaad's opinion on this, but I don't think he should be 'threatened' so much by the Wii.

The 360 and the PS3 are NOT going away, so any one playing those two consoles will continue to get their HD fix and their HD games on both of those consoles for this generation.

For me, that is a good thing because I love those kind of games, I love HD pretty RPG's and FPS etc etc (I sound like a stuck record).

And HappySquirel I think your comments about the SEGA fanboys is so accurate, I used to be a Sega fanboy when I was younger, yep definately was, but have since out grown that obsession (due to a falling sega empire, but I still love certain Sega games - Grandia 2 on Dreamcast = better than FF7 lolz), but I haven't really moved my 'allegance' to another format since then and just enjoy the most of them that I can afford at any one time.

Funny how many nintendo fanboys are coming in here. Looks like this is a nintendo fanboy vaccum.

I hate the Wii because it is going in a direction I don't want the industry to go, People who don't want Motion Detection are going to hate this system with a red hot burining passion because they know if it succeeds that MD could take over, and some of us don't want that. That and it's weak power, only 88 mb total memory compared to 512 for the other two. I already stated in another thread how that affects the games made for other systems that are also on the wii.
