Forums - Sales - american hardware numbers are up!

PS3 is looking (relatively) good if the numbers are all okay. Two weeks it was being tripled by the Wii and doubled by the 360 and now it's only being doubled by the Wii and is allowing a 50% margin for the 360. Obviously not great, but it's a hell of a lot better than it was. I just wonder if they can keep the momentum going into next year.

I brought this point up recently in another thread.  It is very hard to maintain sales ratios as sales increase.  Particularly when you are dealing with supply constraints.  The Wii shows no signs of slowing and until it does nobody is going to catch it.

With that said there is definitely good reason to view the future for the PS3 more positively than say 2 months ago.  November was a very good month for them and December is shaping up nicely.  But they need to take the next step and keep the momentum rolling.  They aren't out of the woods yet, but lets just say they have their compass out and are heading in the right direction.

Who knows with some good decisions over at Sony we might actually have a legit thread about "When will the PS3 pass the 360."..... but it is probably a bit too early to be counting those chickens so to speak.

aah that brings back some memories to the "When will the Wii pass the 360" threads and those who said "never".

(12/05/07, 07:58) after all that fuss last week about ps3 possibly beating 360 the numbers were changed and 360 beat it by 50k. """

=> what I liked a lot (sarcasm) was that the correction was done just after the MS statement of "310000 console". I was a bit surprise by this.
Why update the site following the "free" statement from 1 of the constructor ?

Because he updated the Wii's numbers when nintendo released their figures for the week.  It's called common sense.

Completed XBLA: 16 / 32
Completed Retail: 17 / 64
GS Completion %: 82.63%

I didn't understand that completely (i know english isn't your first language), but the source for 310,000 was CNN, I'd say it's pretty reasonable to trust granted it is still an estimate like NPD but I'm sure they are using far more sources than vgchartz.

Because as much as they would like to companies can't just lie, they will twist statistics so far around they look like bendy straws and any number they will give will be as high as their estimates allow but they can't actually go out and tell a flat out lie.

If a company gives a direct number then it is likely that sales are somewhere within the vicinity of those numbers. If Sony had released real numbers (rather than percentages) Im sure Ioi would have taken those into consideration as well.

I think I will have to wait and see what NPD numbers say before I can be diffenetive on this week and last week. Based on what Sony has said they sold about 230k to 250k the week of black friday, and they also said that at 310k MS had way underestimated 2 to 1 which would have been 155k. If we look back in histroy sales have actually went up for nearly every console the week after Black friday according to this site. With that said I think ioi will be doing some adjusting to the numbers once the year is all said and done. Understand I think ioi does a great job, and I am not only saying this because I beleieve the PS3 numbers are low, as I think we will see the 360 undertracked as well.

Sales are down from last week. but thats expected. The week before was black friday.

Sales are down, but for the Wii it's a supply issue.

The PS3's performance is amazing. Since mid-October, global sales of the PS3 have run almost neck and neck with the 360, despite being $50 to $150 more expensive.

The BluRay Beast has awoken.

I think 360 will beat out the PS3 for this week.. Isn't Lost Odyssey released in Japan this week? Surely PS3 will still sell more consoles there, but not the 36,000 required to beat 360 for the week ww.

==> "common sense"
lol, another funny man.
if I can understand the fact to try to refer to NPD/Famitsu/Mediacreate to get better estimation (maybe), I dont understand why "we" should believe Microsoft or Nintendo numbers.
It is like believibg Sony numbers, the PS3 would be at 8M in NA alone right now !!!

PS : I didnt know Nintendo was used to release figures for the week.
I suppose this is "common knowledge" ...
