Length isn't really what would sway me one way or the other. I'd rather play a great 15 hour game than a boring 40 hour game (for example I hated Oblivion). I'm just looking to maximize my minimal playing time.

Well that could change things then. Outside of the Dark Brotherhood and the Thieves guild, I didn’t really care for Oblivion either.

Mass Effect’s “uncharted” worlds definitely had a similar feel to Oblivion’s wander to yet another damn cave and kill everything mission structure. Unlike Oblivion though, Mass Effect’s main story line doesn’t follow that tedious trend and is lot more concise and entertaining.

BioShock also has a nasty go fetch tendency, but it’s environment and such can dampen that. Again, depends on what you’re expecting.

If you hated Oblivion I would be more inclined towards Bioshock.

Welcome to the forum, Dose. If you hated Oblivion, I'd say buy Bioshock. It's one hell of an experience!

Oh and just for old times sakes, your GBallzack arent you?

@Rocketpig: How in the hell did Bioshock only last 12 hours for you?

On topic: I would never be able to choose one of these over the other.

Thanks to Blacksaber for the sig!

Nope, don't know who GBallzack is.

Gameplay and control wise how are these games similar or different?

I am not cool enough to have a sig yet.

Between thouse to games if you are looking for an action packed ride all the way through with awsome graphics and no bugs Bioshock is the way to go. If you are looking for a little more relaxed game with an emotional storyline, but fairly repetitive bland graphics and AI problems I would go with Mass Effect, the story is good enoughb you will push though the problems. Both are a good choice it really just depends on your mood.

Stop hate, let others live the life they were given. Everyone has their problems, and no one should have to feel ashamed for the way they were born. Be proud of who you are, encourage others to be proud of themselves. Learn, research, absorb everything around you. Nothing is meaningless, a purpose is placed on everything no matter how you perceive it. Discover how to love, and share that love with everything that you encounter. Help make existence a beautiful thing.

Peronally, I think Bioshock looses its zeal about halfway through, it just gets repetetive after a while.
Great fun at first, until you realize that all enemies are basically the same and all the levels are very similar. The story is good and well narrated though, and the gameplay is fun and easily learned, so I'd give the game a solid 8.0 myself.
Mass Effect I've never played, but I've yet to be disappointed by a Bioware game! Besides, as an RPG, it's bound to be both more diverse and have better replay value than a shooter.

Twelve hours was a rough estimate... It could have been 15. I did a lot of exploring in the game but I'm pretty sure I didn't clock over 15 hours.
