Forums - Gaming - The future of "dlc"

So if  this the future of DLC then all hope is lost. First charging for 3 guns in Mass Effect 2 then this? wth EA i though you were the better publisher. So instead of expansion packs they charge for boost and game skins.

its been confirmed today that GT5 has a weather system, track editor and go karts! seriously i think this is going to be the best selling in the series even beating GT3 sales of 14 million plus!

I doubt it will take hold, peple would just abbandon the multiplayer aspect of games like that and it would kill them off hopefully

I think stuff like this will stay.  It's easy to produce and can make the publisher an easy buck and it's not necessary for the game if you don't want to buy it.  Stuff like this is fine by me, kind of like avatar clothes, it's charging for unlocking multiplayer (RE 5) that bothers me.

That kind of DLC is worthless and takes them an hour to put out. In most cases it's already on the disc. EA is pretty bad with DLC. When Microsoft was publishing Bioware games we got one or two DLCs per game. Now that EA owns them they're nickel and diming little quests and gun packs and a bunch of crap.

Crap like that really is annoying, Now Im all for DLC that enhances the replayablility of the game, but when developers intentionally remove content that should have been included in the game to begin with, Now That Pisses People Off!!

This sort of thing isn't even remotely new and wasn't done by EA first.  It is, however, the future of DLC.  If you don't like that quit gaming now so the rest of us don't have to listen to your pointless whining about games you won't even buy to begin with.  Making money at every juncture possible is a business thing, and it won't stop.  If you don't like supporting businesses, don't buy any of their products.  Try living in a communist state instead, I'm sure you'll never pay a dime for DLC in such a country.

You do not have the right to never be offended.

I never bought any DLC and probably never will

The worst offense by EA was making Shale and the Warden's Keep in Dragon Age: Origins DLC if you did not buy Dragon Age: Origins within the first couple weeks.

Shale and Warden's Keep were already done and supposed to be in the game, but EA decided to withhold them in order to milk the late coming buyer out of more money for what should have been the full experience from the get go, not DLC.

It is a stupid business decision. Most business would like to retain customers for years, and you do not do that by nickel and diming people to death. Unlike a communist we can vote with dollars, and that is what will happen. How about if I don't like supporting crappy business models I do not buy their product. Cause the thing is, we as consumers will always have video games the demand is there, but will the current set of devolopers and publishers keep their jobs if they go down this asinine path or some new company take their spot?
