it's perfectly logical.

Dosent make a differece, you can buy a PS3 with a smaller HDD and upgrade with your own one, or buy a 500 GB seperatly. it dosent have to be sony brand. microsoft charge you a lot of money to upgrade your HDD, and you have to buy their one, cant choose to buy one seperate from another manufacturer. PS3 has had Wifi built in since day 1, its taken microsoft 4 years to realise its unacceptable in the 21st century to release a games console without wifi, and even the DS has wifi. there are still 40 mil 360 users who will have had to paid through the nose for stuff that should be built in or universally adaptable. not to mention there are other components than HDD and Wifi adapter that make up a console. it wouldnt supprise me if the components used in the production of a PS3 are more expensive. |
You are entirely missing the point.
The average joe doesnt change is bloody console HDD. They go to GAMe in the UK look at the prices and what you get.
At the moment in the UK the PS3 just isnt that attractive.

I dont know anyone with a Bluray player. Except my one friend who has a PS3. |
You said the same thing in a thread only a short while ago:
http://gamrconnect.vgchartz.com/thread.php?id=113134&page=1
Many posters then provided replies showing evidence to the contrary. Yet here you are posting the same stuff again.
Also, as for the anecdotal evidence. Do you really think your circle of friends buying habits are a strong indication of the UK's as a whole?

OK.
1. Noone provided any evidence to the contrary.
2. Retail prices on the high street of UK for BluRay ( not online prices ) are around £15 average. FACT.
3. The floor space is minimal for BluRay movies in UK
4. The RRP for PS3 on ths high street 'IS' £249.99 at the lowest. And this is what GAME and the rest sell it for.
I'm not sure what your trying to achieve, but my original point stands. In the UK PS3 isnt really important. And the price is not helping especially considering you get less for the money and BluRay hasnt really taken off here.
My point? Sony need to at least match the 360s price in the UK with PS3 lowest model to even start helping it here.

the HW is priced way higher in EU than in most other regions just look at PS move and its accessories its priced way lower in euro compared to US its the other way around for the HW, move is priced lower b/c the euro and pound are stronger than dolla so they can afford it and move is a new HW and sony dont want to mess things up with a high price also MS did the same thing in 08 they had a price cut in late 07 WW than in EU only had another price cut in spring of 08 then again in fall of 08 i believe they went off sequence with there prices in mid 08 b/c sony just cut there price to $400 WW in fall of 07 and still had momentum through out 08 from it, MS didnt want to lose more market share to sony in EU |
Not only is the price a lot higher than everywhere else, the the currency translation is heavily in Japans favor. Just a few months ago, Japan made lik an extra 30% off every pound and 23% off of every Euro compared to the yen.
They can definitely afford a price drop.

1 Euro = 113.7 yen
1 pound= 136.93 yen
Japanese slim ps3 cost 29,980 yen.
Euro slim ps3 cost 299 euros
UK slim ps3 cost 250 pounds
Japanese ps3 slim revenue in yen 29,980
Euro ps3 slim revenue in yen 33,996
UK ps3 slim revenue in yen 34,250
Additional income over 29,980 in yen
Euro: 3,980
Pound: 4,270
income in respective currency:
Euro: 29 euro
Pound: 31 pound

The pound is rising against the Euro and the Euro is rising against the dollar again...the EU economy is still quite a bit stronger than the US economy (which is one that most resembled a crashing one)

So the 360 FINALLY makes a big HDD mandatory (even though there are still 4GB arcade models) and now all of the sudden, the PS3 gets less for your money. So the free online, wifi FROM THE BEGINNING BUILT IN (lol trying to say the wifi is worse), BluRay, etc value just went down...because the 360 got a bigger HDD?

well that would be nice,i think they need one over here
£225 would be a start, can't see them dropping to £200 for a 160gb,this is the uk after all,
didn't the supermarkets have some crazy prices for a bit running upto xmas last year, hopefully they will again
not the blu-ray argument again,of course its not like DVD,but its bigger than you give it credit for selnor and to say the PS3 is not really important in the UK doesn't make sense
