T those not in the know. UK pricing of PS3 is shocking right now.

The cheapest model being £249.99.

For example it has a smaller HDD than the 360s and a wifi not as good.

Yet the 360s is £199. I bet Sony drop the price of the 160gb to £199 in UK.

They have to. Because that would level the price but still have a smaller HDD.

We shall see.

and the ps3 has a 3D blu ray player..  which makes value completely irrelavent

Not really. Bluray isnt that big in UK at all. The prices of the actual Films are to high, and Broadband is very attainable.

I dont know anyone with a Bluray player. Except my one friend who has a PS3.

I know loads and I don't even live there.  5-10pound for a film is not that high.

Dosent make a differece, you can buy a PS3 with a smaller HDD and upgrade with your own one, or buy a 500 GB seperatly. it dosent have to be sony brand. microsoft charge you a lot of money to upgrade your HDD, and you have to buy their one, cant choose to buy one seperate from another manufacturer.

PS3 has had Wifi built in since day 1, its taken microsoft 4 years to realise its unacceptable in the 21st century to release a games console without wifi, and even the DS has wifi. there are still 40 mil 360 users who will have had to paid through the nose for stuff that should be built in or universally adaptable.

not to mention there are other components than HDD and Wifi adapter that make up a console. it wouldnt supprise me if the components used in the production of a PS3 are more expensive.

Wow, I knew we were getting a bad deal with the prices, but we are REALLY overpriced...

So if the PS3 is making profit when sold in US...

Doesn't that mean they could drop the price of PS3 by the $80-90 stated, and still be making a profit? Because if so, that'd be REALLY nice, a 120GB PS3 would be £200, I would love that to pieces, I'd buy another one just for the sake of it...

VAT isn't included in those numbers. 80-90$ isn't the real difference.

With Europe's economy crashing an economical price would be pretty fucking high.

uhm, what news have you been following? Crashing? Aside from the Greek economy (which has now in fact even gotten some pundits for turning it around rather fast and keeping it up)...

Two problems with your calculation:

1. VAT (set to rise in the UK next year by 2.5%)

2. Exchange Rates

The 360 S can be had for £189 due to some supermarket price cutting. The S model is actually very good value and compares favourably to the US price when making a straight Exchange rate analysis. The Arcade S does not. I think straying away slightly from the PS3 discussion highlights the issue of VAT and Exchanges rates that the console manufacturers face. After all the UK has effectively seen prices rise for some models of 360 and Wii in recent times.

The question remains as it did last year whether they need to shift consoles or make money and I suspect a bit of both. A large part of this will depend on how they perceive the exchange rates will go with regards to the Euro, Dollar and Sterling, get this wrong and cut to deeply and they end up in world of pain.

Not a crash I suppose as much as a concern, mild recession, but the point still stands, the value of the pound and euro against the dollar will continue to be an issue in the coming months.

I haven't heard of any crash of the European economy. I wouldn't mind one though.

Anyways, I will jump in if the PS3 drops to 250 Euros in October.

Even with no pricecut, Sony should at the very least consider a 299 euro (White) PS3 GT5 bundle. It will sell like crazy in Europe.
