Forums - Microsoft - Harmonix: Kinect can achieve true 1:1

Not sure what the fuss is about.  It is a rythm game as much as Rock Band.  You need to time your steps with what is on screen, meaning you are not following, but doing exactly what is on-screen at the correct time.  There is a 1:1 representation of your body on-screen to the right.

And William is right, you probably would not want 1:1 in this game for gameplay reasons.  Unless there was a difficulty level that needed it.

It's like DDR, but instead of stepping on the buttons you need to actually move in front of a camera.

This is why me and my girlfriend are so interested in Dance Central.

iPhone = Great gaming device. Don't agree? Who cares, because you're wrong.

Currently playing:

Final Fantasy VI (iOS), Final Fantasy: Record Keeper (iOS) & Dragon Quest V (iOS)

I predict 1 positive post to every 10 negative posts.

OT: I'm sure KINECT can have true 1:1 motion tracking....maybe not right when it comes out but MS will probably have patches in the future that will fix any lag problems.

As I read the thread, I laughed and thought of this post.

Nothing any of these people are saying has any casual person heard of.

My wife is sat 10 feet away and she still cant wait for Kinect. LOL.

Congratulations on posting information that really doesn't have anything to do with the topic.

No it has to do with the way he knew thread would end up after only 4 posts. some would call that a prediction. Others would call that VGC.

Kinect buyers remorse is going to be so high.

You don't and can't know that.....I wouldn't doubt you wish it though.

I think anyone who buys Kinect for Dance Central will be very satisfied unless they have unreasonable expectations.

But the distinction between 1:1 tracking and 1:1 motion control should probably be clarified. The feedback system for Dance Central informs the player of their performance by displaying visual effects cues.

"If you perform a move correctly, the character's body lights up and your surroundings change. If you perform a move incorrectly, the character will turn red."

What you are not doing here is controlling your on screen character like a puppet (true 1:1 control), but mirroring the actions of your on screen character. In effect, the player is the puppet. It's not a freestyle dance session that will have your character repeating any of your personal, non-scripted/animated moves.

Of course, this is how rhythm games work. Memorize the routine and repeat it as closely as possible, which happens to work quite well for dance games, and even more so for a game that recognizes body poses and movements rather than button presses (mat buttons or other) or motion gestures.

The hype around it is very similar to before the wii launched. A hype based on false promises of innovation. The buyers remorse will be strong with this product. If it makes you feel any better, I expect move to get a similar response.

Why would that make me feel better?

But still you can't possible know what the buyers remorse will be like.

I think you guys have the idea of the game wrong. I think the character follows your moves (not you follow theirs) and you try to do the moves that show up on the right of the screen. If this is the case then that is the truest 1 to 1 we have seen as it is full body 1:1 not just a pointer. Granted I could be wrong, but the videos I have seen seem that way

LOL

You really thought the on-screen dancers follow your moves? Did you never wonder why the dance moves of the on-screen dancers were so perfect, no matter who stood in front of the TV?
