Honestly, I could care less if this thing works or not.  I have yet to see one piece of software to get me excited for this thing at all.  I think Microsoft is going to have a hard time selling this to anyone outside of hardcore xbox fanboys at $150.  Even the $300 combo deal os going to be a hard sell considering that a Wii can be bought for a $100 less and has the likes of New Super Bros. Wii and Mario Kart Wii.  Kids will go to their friends house and play Wii, and want to buy Wii, not Kinect.  I'm having a hard time trying to figure out who Microsoft is marketing to here.

And to everyone who says, "look at how much fun people are having though!"  Have you ever seen a movie so bad, that it's hilarious?  Movies like "The Room", "Over the Top", and "The Wizard" remain popular for this very reason, and it's hard not to watch them without smiling.

By this logic nobody will buy Move either so I guess we are wasting our time because both will be failures. Thanks for clearing that up.

I'm not interested in Move either, but at least it has buttons.  Also games like Resident Evil 5, Heavy Rain, and Killzone 3 already have Move support.  I'll personally stick with a regular controller, but those games seem more interesting then anything Kinect has shown me.

And by the way, I haven't cleared anything up.  This is a personal opinion.

@bolded- How is the Move bundle going to sell when it costs twice as much as a Wii?

I never said Move was going to sell.

But I think Sony is trying to target gamers more, where as Microsoft is simply trying to snag Wii's casual audience, which I don't think will work.  I could be wrong and eat my words.  Who knows?

The Wii audience is the only audience left for the 360 and PS3. Game like Halo:Reach, Gears 3, COD:Black Ops, Killzone 3, etc are all aiming at the core gamer. Motion conrols are not going to sway the core gamer to pick a console over the other. The question is will Kinect attract the casual audience better than Move and the general consensus is yes because its cheaper to get playing. $300 vs $400. Personally I think Kinect will sell better but until some great games are announced for it I see it becoming a novelty just like the Move. Move is not going to make Killzone 3 any better and I don't see many gamers using the Move option more than a couple times after getting their asses handed to them playing against DS3 wielding online opponents. Personally I think both were created to try to sway the Wii market over to their respective systems but neither will work too well in doing that.

My guess is the flashing is interfering with the Kinect. We can't tell if the Move has the same problem because nobody cares. I mean... given that we see little coverage on the Move.

Anyhow, is Kinect being released in Japan for the Holidays?

why bring PSmove in this thread?

What does PSmove have anything to do with Kinect issue discussion? so what if PSmove isn't getting much attention? IT DOESN'T CHANGE THE FACT THAT KINECT IS FLAWED.

BTW this is already on VGC news front page.

PS Move also uses a camera. So perhaps tons of flashing lights could interfere as well.

Obviously a room with tons of nonstop flashing lights is not the enviornment the Kinect is intended to be used.

here are no flashing lights, and from 4:25 it doesn't work so well either.

and i don't see why move is being discussed either.

For some reason it bugged out there, but it seems to work great for the most part. Its new technology, I don't expect perfection. I struggle with my god damn Wiimote all the time.

I mentioned Move because it also uses the camera. Perhaps the tons of flashing could interfere with the camera as well.

perhaps shmerhaps.

here is a video of some sneaky Germans trying to distract Move with a flashlight directly into the camera and they fail!

it's right at the start in the haircutting game

Not quite the same as tons of flashing lights engulfing the people playing.

But the hair cutting game isn't even tracking the people. It just follows that ball on the Wiimote Movemote.

of course it's different, it's always different, it's never the same, is it? it's only the same if you need is as example where perhaps the move could be distracted in a similar fashion in some parallel universe.

but i have yet to see a video where the Move fails, but there are plenty of those for the eyetoy  Kinect.

see what i did there?

Well Eyetoy didn't work properly if a room was too dark. I imagine too much brightness can be an issue as well. Regardless, the game he used as an example was following a ball and not people. So yes, its very different.

If the Eyetoy was just a Kinect than why don't they make some motion tracking games? Why do I have to play The Fight with those Movemotes? Why do I need those Movemotes to dance? Oh right... its just a webcam.

Kinect = New technology

Movemote = Exactly what it looks like

Kinect = New technology (that doesn't work)

Movemote = Exactly what it looks like (that works really well)

STFU.

Kinect has proven it works.

Are you ignoring the asian huy in this thread who has played Kinect at this very event? First page, bad english but gets his point across. I'll repeat for him.

I played it at this event. It worked really well with no issues.

Man the media give a tag line off a stage demo ( that could have had issues for many reasons ) and you fanboys run with it.

I guarentee you, when this is in peoples homes, it will work exactly as intended.

The wii 4 years after launch still has loads of glitches with the Wii mote and people dont mention it because it's mighty Ninty.

The amount of times playing Wii with stupid accuracy or purely bad motion sync is horrendous. But heres the point. It's nintendo.

Not... the Wii has tons of fun software that makes those issues barebale. The Kinect thus far only has some lameo ripoffs.

I dont even know why do MS fans have to drag every other companies motiuon controller into this. The thread is about Kinect, and its issues. I dont care if its software or hardware, it has some serious limitations, and MS advertised it laste year as the 2nd comming of Jesus.

You should STFU. As far as I know that asian dude could be a fake account...

By offering Move supported games that are NOT on the Wii while also offering non-Move supported games that you cannot get on the Wii as well.  DUH!!!  There are some people who don't have and want a PS3 with Move ya know....

thats why, the control lights on, and the have motion sensors in it, its works even without hiding it from camera.

Their has been a lot of good feedback on kinect when it was being tested at E3. So something went wrong on that stage it happens with all new products. But this is nothing more then flame bait for xbox haters. If Microsoft really didn't have faith in this product in my opinion they wouldnt be holding these big live demo events. So obviously something unexpected happened on that stage.

Real world. When you least expect it, it barges in.

Kinect is aimed at people that mostly won't even read the user manual, so unexpected things and behaviours will be the rule, not the exception.

yeah thats right...

I must make sure i dont let the paparazzi into my living room in future... and anyone playing in my house better be able to read english on screen instructions or I wont be happy.

You know I played a japanese version of a RPG once... I think it was a broken piece of code because I couldnt get it to work and I didnt have a clue what  was doing..... why do they release unfinished buggy games!!!!???

The difference being this isn't a released game they are playing. They are playing a demo not a retail version of it. I think the most important thing in these short videos that only shows kinect having some small issues takes away from the most important thing. Both those girls seemed to be having a lot of fun.
