Can someone explain the big jump in software sales in Japan for the Xbox360?

How long will 360's steam last? They only have to fight thru August before September hits and everything starts to pick up... looking real good for MS.

It's just that simple.

DS and Wii WTF major doown YoY... -.-

PS3 doing better YoY comparisons again, but remember that PS3 Slim was already known about mid July last year and widely known about in late July.

A game I'm developing with some friends:

It is largely a technical exercise but feedback is appreciated.

I think a slim arcade will have some immediate effect but I think that most people that care enough about having a "slim" probably would pick up an elite anyway.

It looks like XB360 is starting leveling in America. and around a quite high number.

Americas Hardware
Console Weekly (change) Total
DS 115,105 ( 11%) 48,112,812
X360 91,775 (-11%) 24,000,605
Wii 66,817 (-3%) 34,242,314
PS3 47,956 (-4%) 14,395,455
PSP 15,427 ( 5%) 19,554,395
PS2 9,407 ( 7%) 52,184,536
Total 346,487(-1%)

You really need two weeks (at least) of nearly level sales to state something is leveling off.   So far each week 360 has dropped in US since the launch, so strictly speaking there isn't any clear levelling off at this point.  Now it it's around 90K next week then maybe, but if the 90k is including lost sales due to supply then demand might even rise... bottom line I think it's a little premature to see things as levelling off.  IMHO anyway!

Whatever, good 360 numbers.  28% drop is good given supply issues.  I'm very curious to see where by region it settles (if it does settle anytime soon given the number of casual effects on the horizon for the console.

PS3 doesn't seem to be losing much demand to the 360 at this point.  With PS3 up a bit YOY and the surge in 360 I'm wondering what the combined market for an HD console is going to look like going in December.

Wii meanwhile seems to be on a steady dip now, even though overall it's sales are decent enough.

PSP so low in US as to be mind boggling.  DS back on top.  Looks like (unless demand bumps again) it was a 2 week number 1 spike for 360 on the back of the new model.  Not bad really.

Right, but as it dropped just by 11% this week, I made a first attempt, roughly figuring in my mind something like a decreasing exponential sales curve...

Edit: I agree about PS3 and Wii, but PSP was actually up in America and Japan. Not much, still low, but it's not really dead yet, more like a steady niche.

I think I came across a bit harsh there!  I meant little early to be sure but the curve is flattening a bit I agree, there's just so much in flux at the moment it's hard to be sure.

I didn't mean to imply you shouldn't take a stab at guessing how the curve is going.

Yah, PSP up a bit in US but boy it is so low given the population and how other devices sell.  I guess US for PSP is like Japan for 360 - just really low levels compared to the others.

Try to be reasonable... its easier than you think...

Unlike most people here, I'm not ready to call it quits on Wii until after the holiday season.. If that time passed when DKC Returns, Epic Mickey, Goldeneye, Wii Party, and Kirby are released, and the Wii STILL has mediocre sales, then I will start to worry.

People forget that the Wii is going on its 4th year now, which is a decent amount of time for a console on the market. It is simply starting to age. The only reason it appears to be aging quicker than the HD consoles is because both MS and Sony have released slim models and multiple price cuts that are overinflating the sales of their consoles. Nintendo is the only one without a slim model, and yet they are still holding their own. I guarentee the HD consoles will soon start to show their age just like the Wii is.

Wii is also still dominating in software sales, of course people are quick to ignore this little fact, but were repeating it over and over when PS3 was in that situation. This means that the majority of people buying the slim models are existing 360 owners, since 360 hasn't really changed.

Actually Gears2 and Fable2 both raised up... And lets wait and see Software sales this holiday... Big Sellers for Xbox will be Black Ops , Fable 3 , Reach , Kinect Games , Medal of Honor and Crysis 2.
