Forums - Gaming - Dry spell in gaming?

Yeah, I know people've made threads that say that they're not excited about games anymore, anime anymore, etc, and people just say "take a break".

But I'm not talking about playing video games right now. I've been pretty busy with Bad Company 2 and Europa Barbarorum. Maybe I'm not watching anime right now, but I'm busy enough with my gaming and translating. I'll probably start watching again when I can only afford to spend an hour or two, rather than 3-5 during college.

So I'm not bored, not in the least bit.

What I am talking about is: Where are the news? Where is the hype? Where is the REAL hype, not fake hype?

=================================================

I'm really not feeling any excitement for the upcoming months and nexy year as a PS3 user. I think that the most excited people are probably the Nintendo folks with the 3DS (but that's still far away. Nevertheless, at least Nintendo's creating hype with the promise of a huge game library), and PC users with the upcoming Starcraft II.

But what do we PS360's have?

KZ3? Too far away, nothing mindblowingly new and innovative yet. Halo Reach? Not my platform. (Reverse accordingly?)

GT5? I'm sure there's actually a lot of people legitemetly excited for the game, but I sorta don't like seeing the entire PS3 fanbase rooting it, when I'm sure the entire fanbase isn't into racing sims.

Move? Kinect? I don't fucking care to be honest. If you give me one, yeah, I'll take it. But nothing makes me want to fucking go out there and grab it.

GTA V? Not after GTA IV. Red Dead? I don't want GTA on horses.

The Last Guardian? I want some gameplay, not artistic shit, let's see that first.

========================================================

I mean last year I had Bad Company 2. Yeah it sorta fell short, but I was excited for the potential Destruction 2.0 brought to the game. Heavy Rain? Sorta fell on expectations, but it met the expectation that a game can focus more on production value, story telling, presentation, immersion, etc. Other people were excited for GoW3, Alan Wake, etc. I feel like the excitement was real and raw.

Now?

The only actual thing I'm excited for is inFamous 2, because I feel like the first gameplay had a really good core gameplay, that wasn't executed to its full potential. Now we're seeing that rough diamond absolutely fucking polished.

I would be excited for Shogun 2: Total War if I had a good PC.

But that's pretty much it. I'm feeling like the few people who are still excited, the usual fa* boys (you know who they are) just go "OMFG, graphics" "OMFG art" "OMFG this game has X of Y" "OMFG 3D" "OMFG Kinnectamals", etc. I want to actually fucking play games. Stop fucking telling me about engine capabiltities and this technical mumbo jumbo. I really feel like there's a huge disconnect going on with the most vocal people in this forum, and the less vocal ones. The hype threads feel really forced and plastic like, as if they're more like sales pitches rather than tailgates.

Am I right and feeling like there's only crazy talk going on right now, or am I the one being fucking crazy with this rant? I mean, I'm seeing a lot more Off Topic threads than Gaming threads so... bah fuck it.

I think you're right, the "real" hype seems to have died down a bit. I usually don't get really hyped for things until they're close to release (I'm riding high on the 3D and Guild Wars 2 hype trains right now though), which might explain it a bit. There is still a few weeks until the big releases of the year start in September after all.

BTW, I know my whole rant is pretty much a huge assumption that people are hyping things like Move/Kinnect even though they don't really give a damn about it. So please, if you really are hyped for these things, yell that I'm wrong.

Im pretty hyped at the moment. Metroid Other M is only a month away !! not to mention all the great games coming this fall/winter. Plus, yea the 3DS and Kid Icarus!!!! From what I have seen all systems have a good selection of titles coming up that meet thier style of owners. While it is highy doubtful I get it , I wanna see how kinetic actually turns out for the people who do get it. Plus, didnt StarCraft II just come out? I assume some people are busey playing it. Speaking of Which time to go play Arc Rise Fantasia some more.

its the summer drought, happens every year

Don't care about the hype, look around for games.... even from the way in the past... in the nes days to next year games... you'll find something you'll be hyped to get... whether its something you missed or something thats coming.. I'm kinda hyped to get R-Type  snes and looking forward to BulletStorm :3

All gaming systems, consoles/PC, have thier perks... why fight over preferences? I like Coke and you like Pepsi, that's it, let's not fight over which toy we like best cause that's what they are. Is someone's preference in a toy important or is the relationship between you and your neighbor more important? Answer is obvious, but THE most important thing is your relationship with God almighty. God Bless you in Jesus's name.

I can communicate without talking... I can send a loved one money without actually sending money... and I can commit theft without the product disappearing, the point of theft is the point of theft not one of it's possible symptoms which is the product dissappearing. The thief wants to gain something without paying for it, that's the point of theft, the thief doesn't have to care or anybody else has to care if the product dissappears. The product dissappearing is just a possible symptom of theft. Gifts are sacrfices, in order to give a gift, it has to be a genuine sacrfice/gift, meaning a copy of the game isn't still in your PC. Piracy is theft and/or being a culprit of theft.

We are busy playing Starcraft 2....

You do make some good points....

Technical achievements have been a huge part of this gen. It's like devs stopped caring about the simple things that made gaming addicting and moved onto seeing who could put out the best eye candy. I was really damn stoked about KZ2 before it was out, then when I finally bought it I was disappointed and a few classes/balance issues ruined the game for me. The campaign felt generic. Sure the graphics were pretty but, I bought a ps3 to play games.

The only game that's considered a "graphical powerhorse" that ever kept me hooked was MGS4 (well, the visuals are abit outdated now). I loved it because some of it's features obviously weren't realistic, but they were fun. I could be walking around with a tiny pistol then pull out a massive ass railgun at anytime, or use any of the other 40'ish weps in my inven. The game had so many fun items/gadgets/game mechanics to mess around with. I went through the campaign several times picking up new stuff in each playthrough.

Though I guess nowadays, there's no need for actually adding content for replayability when you could just add virtual trophies that do nothin, right? : l

Do you kiss your mother with that mouth?

OT: I'm hyped for SOCOM 4, but I seem to be apart  of a select few.

Monster Hunter keeps me busy, and Other M keeps the hype alive.

Monster Hunter: pissing me off since 2010.
