Forums - General - Dec 21st 2012 End of the World or Cosmic Rebirth?

There is so much to the Universe that we don't understand. Many us think that we will have a place in it forever. I think until we achieve intergalactic travel, which won't be for another 200 years, our survival won't be assured. The question is how long we can go without blowing ourselves up.

My gosh hes right

they were predicting when the ps3 would overcome the wii and 360!!

those danm mayans were brilliant!

With regard to Call of Duty 4 having an ultra short single player campaign, I guess it may well have been due to the size limitations of DVD on the XBox 360, one of various limitations multi-platform game designers will have to take into consideration-Mike B

Proud supporter of all 3 console companys

Proud owner of 360wii and DS/psp

Game trailers-Halo 3 only dissapointed the people who wanted to be dissapointed.

Bet with Harvey Birdman that Lost Odyssey will sell more then Blue dragon did.

Firstly, the Mayan calendar does not 'end' in 2012. It just begins a new long count. Mayans added the long count because their previous calendar was reset in too short of an interval. They instead devised an addition to it to encompass all of their history. However, as all of their calendars are circular, it too will simply reset on or about December 12, 2012.

To Mayan's we are in the 4th time this long count has reset to zero. Each time it resets that year is full of calamity. However, the year of calamities happens every so often, this is compound during a reset of the long count. So the idea isn't that the world will end, but that something globally bad will happen.

Furthermore, there are plenty of Mayan writings and predictions that go way past 2012.

To read more go to:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mesoamerican_Long_Count_calendar

Also the Mayans never claimed the end of the world but then again, they couldn't know either way. Maybe being at the Galactic equater will trigger off a human ascension. However it doesn't change the fact that all lot of changes are occuring in 2012. Coincidence? Maybe. If you listen to the Universe maybe it has a story to tell. From what it sounds like, the Mayans believed we would enter a dark period before we are rejuvinated.

And now you've left the world of logic behind and entered religeous (sp) territory! The mayan prophecies makes about as much sense as any other armageddon story.

I never claimed to believe in the end of the world. Where did I say that? All I said is that there are events leading up to 2012 that make that year seem to stand out. If anything I am raising a scientific debate more than anything else as each of my 4 examples are rooted in science. And if you look at the first example, I say that we are actually living in a special time. This is the first time that humanity will be at the galactic equator in 26,000 years. People can draw whatever conclusions they want from this. I am saying though that cataclysmic events may be approaching that will be triggered by 2012 changes.

I think its a testament to the Mayan's skill in astronomy, that they actually noticed the Cygnus Rift and gave it a name, without a telescope. That is mind boggling.

There are a few people who think that maybe the Mayans arrived at these conclusions by just random luck or something. Now that is mind boggling.
